I have an apartment that is willing to give me 4 lines from a Zinwell MS6X8WB-Z multiswitch. Can I connect these to the inputs on my own switch so that I can get more than 4 connections?

Yes,but it's not ideal and you might want to look into a powered switch for increased reliability.

Should the MS6X8WB-Z be replaced with a powered switch or should I connect a powered mutiswitch to it?

Get an SWM8 and hook up the 4 lines that they give you to that. It's not only powered but you'll only need to run 1 line to each receiver from the SWM8.

That will only work if his receivers are SWM capable.
However, there are 3 legacy ports on the SWM8.
