I had Dish Network installed a few months back with TurboHD-Bronze only + locals + Cinemax/HBO/Stars and two 722k receivers. I was setup on satellites 110, 119, 129. From searching the forums, its my understanding that the Springfield, Mo. HD locals are only on 77. I previously didn't care since only a couple a stations were available. Today KYTV NBC, a channel which I actually watch on occasion, announced that it is now available to Dish Network customers.

My question is will HD locals ever be available on 129 and if not why would the installer set me up on an arc that wouldn't allow me to pick up my HD locals? I live on the outermost edge of the coverage area and can't pick up OTA locals reliably, so I would prefer to get them through dish.

I had a second antenna or dish added to my roof to pick up 77. They did this for free assuming I'd agree to a new two year term. They can replace your current setup and add a 1000.4 system as well, but at the time I didn't want to gain KOLR and KSFX in HD and lose KY3 and KSPR in SD. I guess that doesn't answer your question though. I understand most new HD locals will remain on 77.

KYTV and KSPR were uplinked today but are still unavailable. KOLR and KSFX have been available since Jan 14 from 77°. Any HD install with locals after that should have been on Eastern Arc. The channels not yet in HD are also on 77° in SD including KSPR until it's switched to HD.

I guess what I'm confused about is why they would put SD on both Arcs but not HD.

I guess what it comes down to is that I will need either a second dish pointed to 77 or replace my current dish with a 1000.4 to hit the entire Eastern arc. Do you advice one setup over the other? My install was back in April so I'm not sure why they used the Western arc.

The 1000.4 dish is a little larger than the 1000.2 which I have. It requires two additional support beams, I guess that's what you call them. The installer said he would've had to remove the 1000.2 and install the 1000.4 putting new holes in the roof. It seemed to me at the time that just adding the second dish (which also required new holes in the roof) pointing to 77 was a little easier. Plus, at the time the installer told me I'd lose KY3 and KSPR in SD if he moved me to the 1000.4 and that was a deal breaker. I obviously preferred the one dish, but I did what I had to at the time.

Those are your options, both will work. The EA solution keeps you at one dish and any SD channels you record will take only about half the hard drive space. I would tell Dish that you found out your HD locals were available when you signed up and that it seems the installer put in the wrong dish.
