Hi,

I've just moved into a place that has a Dish network install. The house came equipped with a couple 311 Receivers. I have just been given a VIP722 DVR, and I'd like to hook it up to my Panasonic HDTV. I gave a call to Dish Network, and they are claiming I need an installer to come out and install special hardware to get it going. As a techie, I have a hard time believing that it's not a few pieces I can get at the local hardware store. But...maybe I'm wrong. What do I need to do to get it going? Assume I know very little about Dish Network. (Because I do)

Thanks!

Mike

:welcome_s to DBSTalk!

The 311 is a single-tuner SD receiver, so the house probably has a Dish 500 which sees the 110° and 119° orbital slots. An HD receiver in Denver also needs to see 129° for most of the HD channels so the dish will need to be replaced with a Dish 1000.2. The rest is just screwing on connectors and waiting for the initial software download.

The other thing is that the 722 is a dual-tuner receiver and needs to have both satellite inputs connected. If the Dish 500 has a DishPro Plus Twin (wide LNB housing with dpPLUS logo) you can use one line and the Separator that comes with the 722, otherwise you need both lines. Once the 1000.2 is put up, you can also use the Separator.

And if those 311 receivers were leased (call Dish and provide the R00 number) they should not have been left behind and need to be returned.

:welcome_s Mike.

Short answer: you need the professional install. What price did they quote you to install it?

Thanks for the great responses guys.

A quick trip to the roof (It's easy, I'm on the 2nd floor) confirms that the dish is indeed a 500. So...couple of questions. I'm on the 2nd floor of a victorian home. I have HD, my landlord (who lives downstairs) does not. Does the new dish still enable her to use her 311? And how is that done...do we just lease the dish, or do we typically have to buy it outright?

The 311's weren't just left here, they are an active account.

Unfortunate that I have to get a professional install, but I'll call today and see what I can do.

Thanks for the good tips!

So, this is an addition to an existing account?
