Hi all I got an interesting call from Directv today and was offered the Premier Package and Football (Season Pass I think) for five months like a new customer. I have been with Directv for about 10 years the catch was after the intro time I could not go back to my "total choice" no locals and I imagine a 2 year commit. I told them to call back in a week and I would think it over.

Im not sure how they would prevent you from changing your plan. But thats not a bad offer. If it were may I would take it.

Total Choice is a grandfathered plan that is no longer available.

It sounds like they're actively working on killing grandfathered plans now. It's cheaper to give you free programming than keep up the extra accounting system. I'd take the offer since their next step will probably be to take it away and give you nothing for it.

There is not an agreement with this offer unless they offered you equipment as well.

If I don't have to get a two year agreement than I guess I will if they call back and what the hack they will probably just end up taking "total choice" anyway since its been a problem adjusting accounts. Thanks for the input people.

I just got this offer as well...
It's 5 months of premier for $2 more a month, free Sunday Ticket, free DVR service for 5 months. At the end of the 5 months, you can downgrade the packages, but as stated you can't go back to Total Choice or Total Choice Plus. You would need to go to Choice Xtra. There is no commitment extension with the offer.
I passed on it as I want to hold out on upgrades until I move to HD to try to leverage some free receivers.

I took advantage of this deal last year. I have Lifetime DVR service which was changed to free DVR service for 5 months. It was quite the hassle to get my Lifetime DVR service reinstated after the 5 months were up.

Well, that's your own darn fault for taking DirecTV up on the offer. Don't you know that you can't expect to have Lifetime DVR service if you get free DVR service for 5 months? The 5 months free supercedes any lifetime offer you have and thus you lose the lifetime offer. I figured a DirecTV veteran like you would know that by now...
I also figured that at somepoint they'll push to get rid of grandfathered packages again and will offer it to me again... At that point, I'll hopefully be enjoying a free HD-DVR or two...

I would totally take this offer, I have the grandfathered package as well and would love all those parts this offer looks like it is offering. Can I call D* and ask for it? And as far as the difference between total choice and choice xtra, what channels are different between the 2?

You can't call in for this offer. Do a quick search the differences have been rehashed a few times specifically in AT&T discount threads.

Why can't I call, if not how do I take advantage of this offer if it is out there?

So $2 a month more for 5 months - and then $2 (or is it $3?) a month more for the same channels that you had before. As I don't have time now to watch what I record this wouldn't be a good deal for me. I'd probably end up getting rid of another DVR (from 3->2) so D* would lose income in the end.
But I can understand the offer from D*'s side and to each their own.

When activating a HD-DVR last year I asked about this and they gave me the offer (and got rid of my grandfathered package). So it is something you can call and ask about but it will probably depend on the CSR.

If you currently have a grandfathered package (Total Choice/Total Choice Plus), DirecTV will probably call you at some point. It is easier for them to manage accounts if no one has an old grandfathered package, so every now and then they try to get people to upgrade to a newer package.

From Total Choice Plus ($57.99) to Choice Xtra ($60.99) you would be gaining 16 channels: Fox business, Gmc, Hd theatre, Hdnet, Jewerly television, ONCE, Ovation tc, 6 SONC, 3 Sirius xm. There are no lost channels.

I just called in, and the CSR said that it was only a new customer offer (I've had DTV for 11 years). She did say, however, that they are making this offer on OUTBOUND calls only, but if I had the phone number of the marketing people who were making this call, I could probably take advantage of this offer.
Sooo.... anyone have the number to call?:D
By the way, she was very nice, and gave me 3 months of Showtime for free -- apparently that's a promo that's being offered.

Thanks. Called the new number, the CSR put me through to retention, and I was told the same thing about the outbound requirement. The retention guy said that there was no way to take advantage of this offer unless you get the outbound call.
I did get $10 off for 6 months and free Starz.
I must keep getting the wrong people, and I hate begging for free stuff.
How did anyone who called in get this deal?
Got the same phone call from (877) 372-4388 - was at work so I couldn't really talk to the guy plus he was hard to understand. I'm on Choice Extra - offered me NFL Sunday Ticket for 5 months along with free movie channels and free DVR. Not bad since my HBO / Starz / Showtime expire at the end of this month.
My billing is still screwed up as when I signed up I am supposed to be paying $80.97 according to my bills and I'm currently paying about $15 to $20 more than that.
I asked for a number to call him back at - said that he didn't have one and said he could call me back, told him to call me back at 9 PM.

Just got another call on this and according to the rep if I cancel before the end of the fourth month I go back to "Total Choice". He says that the special is a customer appreciation program and not a way to get people off of Total Choice.
After calling for the last 5 weeks, offering to pay full price for ST if they give me SF for me and getting rejected each time. :nono2: I did some reading on slickdeals.
I called the retention # 1-800-824-9081
I asked if I was eligible for the $59.99 ST and premier package. I told her that I had changed my home phone # a few months ago, but had not updated it with DTV. She said yes we tried to call you on July 30th to give you this offer, but never got an answer back from you.
She told me to call 877-204-0596 and tell them that I should be eligible for the "Outbound call center offer for ST." So I gave them my phone # and they said yes I am eligible.
I got:
$59.99 for 5 months for Premier and ST.
Free DVR fee for 5 months.
They told me to call back 5 months from today to downgrade to "total choice" package.
I asked about superfan was told to call back the regular 800-531-5000 # to purchase that.
So for $6 more a month -$6 credit a month for DVR fee=$0 a month I will get ST and Premier for 5 months.
Good Luck to all!
I have had DTV for 3 years and have one year left on my contract.
I have got 2 HD DVRs for free and am 9-10 months into a $10 off for 12 months discount.
and I there aren't any channels that I don't get that DOES NOT cost extra.. meaning like Baby.. or the Outdoor channel..
why anyone would pay good money for baby is beyond me, but that's a different thread..
I pay extra for the outdoor channel. BUT I WONDER if Versus leaves, will the Outdoor channel become FREE?
I get all those channels some one else posted..
in fact.. I actually believe that I will LOSE CHANNELS by "up grading"...
and then there are my Distant Networks that I do not want to lose or screw up....

Be sure and let us know when you manage to get a free HD DVR so I can use you as an example!!! :D
I got the "5 months free premiums" offer too when I asked about upgrading to an HD DVR. But the upgrade would cost me $99-too much in my opinion for a commitment reset and an extra $10 a month and possibly a reconditioned clunker HR20.

That's incorrect, I get those channels and I am on TC+ grandfathered.
I would rather have the couple dollars off per month personally. I am holding out as long as I can.

Thank you, I knew there had to be more ppl that still held on to the old TC + plan, but that does make me wonder if I should make sure DirecTV has my correct phone number... Wait they do... hmmm guess i am just waiting for a call...

Imagine that.... they want to offer me free two useless (to me) packages to get me off Total Choice Plus. I have very little time as it is, and don't have time for premium packages or NFL.
Maybe after December, 2010....

I got the call tonight. I actually had a hard time understanding the caller as she had an "urban" accent and also seemed to be chewing gum. When I told her no hanks, she said, "But it's only $2 more!" To which I replied, "But why should I pay even $0.02 more for something I don't want?" There were about five seconds of silence, and then she thanked me and hung up. Yep, I'll be hanging onto TC+ as long as I can!
...was offered the Premier Package and Football (Season Pass I think) for five months like a new customer.
This is the same deal I got last week when I called Movers Connection. I actually moved back in January, but suspended service until I could get settled in the new house, figure out where to put the dish. and pre-run some wiring. Turns out, waiting paid off as I will now get NFL ST through the season.
for anyone who took this offer -- were you able to call back and get a deal on superfan too?

I have no interest in sports but I was offered the five months deal. I took it because the Premium Package includes many movie channels. I'm filing up my DVR's with movies to watch for months.
I won't keep the offer after five months though.
In fact if anyone wants the NFL part they can have it:)
I reckon they'll take away the Total Choice package eventually anyway.

NO! And be sure to check the DIRECTV.COM web site to see what channels are in what package. A lot of the "HD only" channels are NOT included in the basic HD Access package ($10.99/month) but require an extra-cost HD access "tier" just like cable!

All of the HD only channels require HD Extra except for HD Net. These channels would have to be in their own package as raising back package rates would not be fair to those without HD.

See that's what I don't understand. When I was given the offer they explicitly told me I would get HDNet. When I asked if I would actually get it since I don't have HD service, the CSR put me on hold and then came back and told me that I would. Once again, another example of the shining training DirecTV CSR's get.
