My mom had Directv with a complex setup. My question is not directed at this. Her TV blew (was old) and she picked up a new TV. The new TV only had one yellow-red-white input and two Blue-red-green. I need to hook up three directv recievers to the TV (which is how it was hooked up to the old TV). One receiver has the Blue/Red/Green and is set. The other two only have Red/White/Yellow. Since I can only hook up one R/W/Y into the TV, I was wondering if there was a way to convert the 2nd R/W/Y to a B/G/R.

I wanted to see if there was a way to do this before I tell her she needs to return the TV. The other option we thought of was trying to upgrade the receiver with Directv, but I don't want to mess with the receivers. We have each receiver working on a different signal and I am concerned I may not remember how to program a new receiver to this.

Please advise.

Get one of these to switch up to 4 component inputs. (red, green, blue)

The back is showing Orange, just put the Y into the O port?

Thanks

That was a long winded question. I wish I had a happier answer.

You have two options that don't require special switchgear:

o S-Video (most TVs that have component also have S)
o Use the TV's tuner (assuming it is a TV and not some sort of monitor) with the satellite receiver's modulator.

There's no reasonable way to convert from composite to YPbPr (Red Green and Blue RCA video connectors).

That's the best I can do without more pertinent information about the display device.

The back is showing Orange, just put the Y into the O port?Orange is used uniquely for coaxial digital audio connections (and should be labeled as such).

A component switch is not what you need to connect a composite source to your TV.

No, the Orange is digital coax audio. Just use the R,B,G and R,W audio.

I guess I should have asked, what Directv receivers are you using?

I am not there right now, but it is a straight Directv DVR (without Tivo). I am guessing you had second thoughts and nolonger feel your idea will work? The short issue is the receiver only has R/Y/W and the TV G/B/R. So there is no way to convert this?

Harsh, it is a Sony TV and I wasn't sure what you were suggesting about using the TV tuner?

Your receivers would have to have component out (RGB) for that switch to work.

This one will work....

but, I am not familiar with this brand.

Harsh, it is a Sony TV and I wasn't sure what you were suggesting about using the TV tuner? The SD DVR should be capable of putting out a channel 3 signal that your Sony can tune. I'd recommend looking into the S-Video connection first.

It would help enormously if you could share what specific model of Sony TV you are working with. It is possible that you're missing something that a careful reading of the manual might reveal (like an additional front or side panel input jack).

I agree most newer TVs that have component input should have S-Video also. The OP already said one receiver is connected through component(red blue and green). So the other receiver could be connected through the composite(yellow along with red and white). Then the third receiver could use S-Video or if that isnt there a coax and then set TV channel 3. I am rather interested to hear why the OPs mom needs three receivers connected to a single television

There are plenty of low end LCDs that lack Svido and even higher end Samsungs and such that Svideo and a second composite.

Get a cheapo composite switch:
