Supposing that the window is in the right place and in the direction of the satellites, how much % would I lose?

I just don't want to subscribe to Digital Cable!!!

I do not think you can get any reception through regular glass. I have read of people replacing the glass pane with plexiglass/lexan to get reception from an indoor dish.

You should get enough signal to work within acceptable limits through most glass. Double pane as well as those with metallic compound coats and lead crystal(I've seen leaded glass in screen doors, no idea what they were thinking), would be more of a pain.

There even used to be a device called a glass link that worked through a glass window without penetrating it physically.

I have my 30" DirecTV dish aimed through glass and at a farirly favorable angle, but still lose a lot of signal. My readngs are considerably lower than I'd get from an 18" dish unobstructed.

The Glass Link device sheds no light on this subject. It is something that takes the L-band (950Mz-1450Mz) signal and induces it through thin glass. DBS signals are in the Ku-band (12.2Mz-12.7Mz), and their penetration angle will not be as favorable as the perfectly square primary-to-secondary orientation of the inductors in a Glass Link.
