Well, it is official. I added multi-sports today so that I will be ready for 9-13 when Redzone goes live. Until today when I activated multi-sports I did not see the need for 24/7 HD RSN's but, there is alot of cool non pro stuff on there that is shot in HD and it would be nice to be able to see it that way. Do ya'll think that the sub increase that Redzone will bring to the multi-sports pack will make E* reaccess the need for 24/7 HD RSN's?

What I've never been able to find out is how much HD content is there on the RSNs when games are not being played?
I know right now Dish sometimes can't show all active games because of the way they are sharing the space... but if they could show all the HD RSN game broadcasts, I don't know if there is a need yet for 24/7 HD RSNs if there isn't much HD on in between the games.
Anyone know?

Well, I know there is some stuff that is shot in HD such as CFL games, and various pregame shows, of course I do not know if the HD feeds are actually showing the HD versions or not. Don't get me wrong, if they did provide them I still would not count them toward the national HD count as D* does but, they would be nice to have if they did have some real HD.

So Steward, is this Redzone channel going to be enough to budge you off of the absolute package?

I don't know.. Maybe if they add others that I can't get (but want).
RedZone in and of itself, only being live on Sundays... isn't as tempting to me. I prefer watching a whole game, and the networks are usually good about showing highlights of impressive plays/scores with quick-looks.
If I had RedZone, I'd certainly take a look... but not sure I'd make a drastic change just to get it.
Also have to factor in whether or not TurboHD standalone could be had, or if I'd be forced to go Classic 250 + HD... as that would cost even more.

Yeah, I doubt that I would drop absolute just for this one but, in my situation it is only 6 more bucks a months so I figured what the heck. What we know now for sure is Classic 200 + multi-sports will get you this channel for sure. I am hoping that Turbo Silver+multi-sports will make it show up too since NFL Network is availble in Turbo Silver. That being said this is Dish Network we are talking about so, we won't know for sure until 9-13-08.

Yep.. If it were just a matter of adding multi-sport, I probably would already have done that anyway just for the Big Ten Network during football/basketball season... so the RedZone channel would be gravy!
I suppose I'll need to investigate at some point whether or not I could still get the TurboHD packages and add multi-sport to that... or if I'd be forced back into the Classic package.
Depending on those choices, I'd probably have to drop a premium or two to make up the cost difference in my budget... and that might not be a horrible choice to make.
Part of me does still wonder why NFL Network didn't incorporate this into their programming on Sunday... but I also guess I understand why they did it (presuming they stick to the plan of only offering it for non-DirecTV since DirecTV has their own channel + Sunday Ticket).
I'd be much more impressed if NFL Network would upgrade their game broadcasts to 5.1 surround sound before they launched another channel.

NFL REDZONE channel 155 (HD) may become active on the grandfathered absolute HD without activating since you can't (multi-spots)after a discussion with a Dish rep Aug 28th (for what its worth) proof will be in the pudding as they say.

Does or did anyone with the multi-sports package that lives outside the Big Ten Geography actually receive Live Big Ten football games in HD. does Dish limit broadcast.

Yep. Dish had it initially turned on for everyone the first season... then the next season you had to add multi-sport if you were outside of Big Ten country.
The Big Ten would be the ones blacking-out, not Dish... and I've heard nothing so far of any blackouts, though I suppose it is always possible if they don't have a sellout and want to push ticket sales.

I guess we will see, In the past if I remember correctly the only channels that were added to absolute after it was first offered were channels that went to the platinum package. I think that absolute will not receive redzone because it requires multi-sports be added and absolute customers are not allowed to add multi-sports but, if it does come on for absolute customers that would be great but I doubt it.

Added the Multisport pak, today as well. I do this every year for College football season and Redzone is just added gravey. Looking ahead in the guide at Saturday's upcoming games, little disappointed in whats being offered in HD, on some of the RSN's, sure wish they would broadcast the actual games in HD. Watching some of the Preseason games on NFL Channel, NFL seems to be working overtime getting ready for the REDZONE. Once a team gets to the 20, they block out the REDZONE, and have built in Advertisement overlays.
Networks are fairly good at showing the scoring plays, the leave off alot of the playes that happen in the Redzone, that lead upto the score, or better yet the defensive play that stops the scoring drive. Seeing the action of a game once a team hits the REDZONE, is just a lot more than just a TD or FG. I have watched entire games, watched the highlights on Local or ESPN News, and shook my head of what made the highlights and what MISSED out in the highlights.
