i recently connect a vip 612, and the signal strength is weak, but with a 311 it get more signal strength? what could it be? the Lnbs? switches? should i put a ground?

the vip 612 have 42 on 110 and 29 on 119
the 311 have 70 on 110 and 55 on 119 (all that approximately)

Don't worry - different models have different "meanings" to the same values on the scale.
If you're really concerned / curious - swap the locations of the receiver and check it .

The dish should be grounded. But that won't affect signal at all. Most likely just diffferent firmwares.
Look at his location PR may also affect signal strength.

Make sure the VIP612 is not running on its factory software. It should indicate on the point dish screen if the Signal Meter has been modified. If it does not say this then you cannot compare one model of receiver to another on sig strength. The whole reason for the modified signal meter is to bring each model's displayed level to the same scale.
