I have an HR-22, and am getting more HD-dvr's in the living room hooked up to 3 tv's. Directv can't tell me the model numbers of the new dvr's until the technician brings them to the installation, but I'm assuming (and hoping) that they are the new HR-23.

Question is: Are the remotes programmable to use in the same room? I don't want to change the channel on tv #1 and tv #2 (both Hr-23's) at the same time. Will they work separately?

You should not have any problem running all 3 DVR's in the same room. In fact, you could set up one remote to run all 3 DVR's using the DirecTV, AV1, and AV2 slots on the remote.

But as far as changing channels, if all 3 tvs and dvrs hooked up and running at the same time, if I change the channel on tv#1 will it also change the channel on tv#2 and/or tv#3 (same model dvr hr-23 or hr-22)?

I've got 3 receivers connected to the same TV. I'm using the RF mode, so each receiver is coded to each "slot" [slider position] on the remote. DTV is for one, AV1 is for another, and AV2 is for the third. I "simply" slide the slider to which I want to "talk to" and it work fine.
There are some added codes so you can do the same thing in IR mode, "but" the default has all receivers reacting to the same command, so you'll need to reprogram the remote/receivers to have them work.

the 3 dvrs are hooked up to 3 tv's in the same room all running at the sametime, not 3 dvr's hooked up to 1 tv. So i'll still be ok with changing the channels with the same dvr's all on at the same time in the same room?

Yes. Just give each DVR a unique address in the remote setup (receiver 1, 2 or 3) as others have said and it will work fine. However, you will have problems working the volume if all 3 tv's are identical. You'll just have to get really close in order to change just one.

Also, you are liable to get any of the HR2x series units. HR20, HR21, HR22, HR23. As far as DirecTV is concerned, they are all the same and interchangeable.

Regardless, all are capable of supporting multiple IR, or RF, remote codes, so you will be able to program them so that you can control them individually.

I have three HD-DVRs in the same room and I use three remotes one for each (little dice stick ons (1-2-3) come with package). No problem, for HD-DVR #1 use remote #1, etc. The volume is the only overlapping feature. I have to point to the side to control just one mute (for example).
Best Wishes!!
