View Full Version : new construction
Directv will only give you 3 receivers . 1 in the living room . 1 in the master bedroom , and 1 in the other bedroom . That is it . :nono: . I am doing New home construction . I have ran into these problems . When we pre-wire we wire up ALL rooms . If this is the way satellite is going to be . We will have no choice then , to sign with cable . You want 1 reciever in the Living room . 1 in ther master bedroom . 1 in the den . 1 in the kids room . 1 in the kitchen . 1 in the entainment room . That is how we pre-wire for cable or satelitte .

Try Dish they can get you as many as you want under the digital home plan- well at least up to about 6.
Catman you can have as many receivers as you want to pay for with Directv. Mike with Digital Home Plan you are limited to a maximum of 4 receivers and DISH Network sets a limit of 6 receivers on 1 account.

Make sure to run multiple coax lines to each room, to each wall outlet. I recommend three to each outlet, three outlets per room. It's way easier than messing around with stackers and diplexors and so on. It also allows you to mirror output back to the central point where you can then jumper over to another outgoing line to someplace else. A lot of people building new houses want that.
Since when do they only do three? Four set installs are the average installers dream.
BTW, don't let the installer rook you into anything you don't need. Only get a multiswitch to cover as many rooms as you actually need.
I think the max per DirecTV account is 6. But don't forget the phone line to ALL those locations. When you get up to that many receivers, they really insist on the phone line requirement.

There's no official phone line requirement with Directv except those who have locals, Tivos, sports packages, and of course remote PPV ordering. Although these aren't enforced as it is...
Here's the phone line agreement we all agreed to when we signed up for DirecTV (http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/learn/CustomerAgreement.jsp) , see section 1(f, g). They may or may not enforce it, but it does exist.

But you can still BUY 2 more receivers on DHP, for a total of 6 on the account - & those will still be covered under DHP maintenance. ;) ;) ;)

If you have DirecTivo and and x amount of other receivers on the account does only the DirecTivo receiver need to be connected to the phone line if you do not have the sports channels, locals, etc? What about those that want to go camping with their receiver that has the sports, locals, etc?

They can. The phone line requirement is just for Tivo updates on the Tivo receiver. And I have yet to see them actually start blacking out programming on your receiver if you don't plug in the phone line. It's only an official requirement in the above stated cirumstances. Though it is enforced for Tivo as you'll get nag screens if you don't have the phone line plugged in.

Perhaps that is just for the program guide and/or the Tivo subscription and not for DirecTv service.
