Not sure if this the right forum, if not sorry. To hook up my HR20 to the internet for VOD, could I just purchase another wired DSL modem and plug it into phone outlet near HR20? I don't have a wireless network, only one computer in house. Or should I get a DSL router with multiple outlets and wire one of them to the HR20 and one of them to my computer? Or use DTV "Internet connection Kit"?
Thanks for any advice!

There are several ways to network your DVR. They're all explained here (http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?p=1946270#post1946270). Just let us know if you have any questions. :)

Thanks for your quick reply. My current DSL modem has just one outlet so I will need some piece of new equipment and could I just get a simple DSL modem from Walmart, plug it into a phone jack near the HR20 and get internet access that way? My HR20 is 50' away from my computer. Will the modem just recognize the HR20?

No... you can NOT have 2 DSL modems on the same telephone line.

What you require is a simple switch like the one at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833122005

You will place the wire from the single port on your dsl modem into this switch and then use additional ethernet cables to hook up your DVR, computer, etc. to the switch. The switch allows the internet connection to be shared among multiple devices.

That splitter is not a bad option but I would get a cheap router. This way you can take care of your VOD needs and have a device that will support future expansion. Also, some DSL companies have a dsl router/modem that will also work. I know I have seen them through the AT&T website but not sure if your ISP offers it.

Stay away from the "COMBO" units. Actually, stay away from anything "COMBO" relating to electronics. I had the AT&T 2wire 2701HG, boy was that a POS! 2wire makes the worst products on the market and their technical support is non-existent. AT&T tech support is also horrendous, bunch of "bubble headed bleach blonds" who can't grasp anything beyond the script from which they read.

My phone company provided a 4 port wireless modem router. Works great!

Glad you're happy.

But, I too, would recommend getting your own router, or wireless router.

Then if you change providers, or have a failure, you'll simply take your new modem and feed the WAN port of your LAN.

I'll cross that bridge if it happens. :)

The only other provider would be TWC.
And, that won't happen. :O
