Just thought I'd pass this along.

625/322 Receiver Combination – DHA and DHA 24 Promotions
The 322 receiver configurations are changing.

Currently DHA and DHA 24 customers are eligible for a combination of a 625 receiver and a 322 receiver. Effective Wednesday 9/02/09, the receivers that will be allowed in these scenarios will be a 625 and a ViP222/K.

Scenario
• New Connect DHA or DHA 24
• SD Programming
• 3 or 4 TVs
• Customer requested a single DVR
• Work order will be for a 625 and a ViP222/k

These changes will not impact the existing modification and substitution rules. For example, if a work order calls for a ViP222/k, a 322 can not be substituted for it. The 322 will not activate. Additionally, the CSR will not be able to modify the work order to replace the ViP222/k with a 322 as that option is no longer available.

Key Points
• These configuration changes affect only NC/RC work orders, not CH or TC work orders
• Work orders cannot be modified to substitute a ViP222/k for a 322, or a 322 for a ViP222/k
• Install the receiver(s) listed on the work order
• Continue to follow the Substitution Matrix

FAQs

If a work order calls for a 322, can the Tech substitute a ViP222/k?
No. The receiver will not activate.

If a work order calls for a 322, can the Tech modify the work order to a ViP222/k?
No. The CSR does not have the option to change the promotion.

Are these changes only for NC work orders?
Yes. This change is for NC DHA and NC DHA 24 work orders.

Will the existing customer receiver upgrade work orders be eligible for this configuration?
No. The configuration change from a 322 to a ViP222/k is for NC DHA and NC DHA 24 work orders only.

If I need to replace a 322 receiver on a TC/SC, can the ViP222/k be substituted?
No. The 322 is still “like for like” only. Substituting a ViP222/k could drive charges to the customer’s bill.

So, are they doing away with the 322 all together?

Are they doing away with the 322? - On new installations, Yes.

Will they stop 322 ( Retire ) from working in the field? - Highly Doubtful for a long while if ever. The 322's are diehard and alot of people use them.

I forsee the only time that they actually retire the 322 is when E* finally goes full MPEG4 and drops all support for MPEG2, which will eventually happen, but not soon.

What does the 322 not do that prompted Dish to replace it with an HD receiver in a new non-HD installation?

Both 322 and 222/k have 8PSK tuning, as well as the 625. The 222/k has an ethernet connection but I see that as being more useful on a DVR and they're keeping the 625 which doesn't have it. The 222's OTA tuner (optional on the 222k) is really just an extra. The 222/k does MPEG-4 but the 625 doesn't.

Manufacture of the 322 (and 311 and 625) was discontinued about 9 months ago. The ones that have been installed since then have been reman's (refurbished/remanufactured). As you would expect, attrition has finally reduced the number of 322s that become available under the reman program to a point that there are no longer enough to meet the demand for new installs. So, new connects are getting 222's, just as new customers wanting 311s are getting 211s.

There are still enough 322s (and 311s) for the time being to replace existing receivers that die, but at some point, even those will be replaced.

Dish has wisely decided that it didn't make sense to keep making more MPEG2/SD-only receivers, and so they've contracted for more MPEG4/HD-capable receivers instead, and that's going to help them move forward with their plan to *eventually* dump MPEG2 and any SD duplicate channels. We're still years away from that, but this is an important step down that road.

So the thing the 322 doesn't do is occupy space in a warehouse. Can't install it if it's not available ;). This is a good first step towards that eventual plan.

The part that doesn't make sense is the classic Dish thinking shown in the FAQ, especially for trouble replacements. Let's make sure we've shipped out all the old receivers so we can take them back and later ship the replacement the customer could have already had. I guess "later" must not be right around the corner, but I would think upgrading customers as the need arises would ease the later burden of getting everyone swapped out for the conversion.

As of right now 301/311’s are being replaced by VIP211/VIP211K's - 322's are not yet being Return/upgraded.

I'm still setting up new orders with 625/322, don't know how accurate this post is.

FWIW I'm still seeing them as well, but I am also seeing the 625/222/k W/O too. I was just passing along an E mail that was sent down from the top. My guess is that you will see more and more of the latter. I have already noticed you rarely see any 311/301 NC's anymore. It's all 211k now.

This just a small step towards the mpeg 4 conversion. Non DVR boxes are cheaper so they are starting with them.
