View Full Version : Why get Discovery HD when TW has it for free
I've got a lot invested in Dish at the moment, in particular for HD. It irks me that Dish wants a lot for Discovery HD, but I hear now that Time Warner Cable is offering for free. Ugh. Sounds like the price of Discovery-HD was engineered specifically to pay off the 8PSK modules they were selling at a "Reduced" rate.

I don't expect that DHDT will remain $8/mo much longer. I will likely be put into a HD package (like America's TOP HD) which will bring the price per channel down.

When anything comes out for the first time and you are one of the few or the only one providing a channel or service, it is going to be a lot more expensive for the company and consumer.

Amazing concept "Free". Subscribe to TWC digital package, $60 or so a month, and we give you Discovery HD for "free". Believe me, your paying it.

Yes, I would believe the consumer is paying for it because if it was truley free, you would not need to order that high of a package to get it. It is just another channel included in that package.

Yes and not only that, but those TW digital subs who do not have a HDTV are paying for it to even though they can not watch this channel.

Just goes to show that things are not always as they seem to be.

You mean I can call Warner cable now and ask them for my free Discovery HD and I'll get it tomorrow no charge EVER?
I bet I wouldn't.
Now, Discovery HD is INCLUDED at no extra cost on the Digital tier of service here. That is "only" $70 a month. or about the same price as America's Everything. And the Warner package doesn't include one single premium channel.
So I guess I could say that Dish has HBO HD and Showtime HD for Free! Hey, it's included in the everything pack so it's free right?
See ya

You should really complain to Cox cable. As it will take 10 million subscribers to allow Discovery HD to break even at a $4 per sub costs, you should call and tell them that ads are okay to use, in order to lower the actual costs to the providers and the subs. :ewww:
