View Full Version : Diagnostic code: 43-933
When I run a system test I get 1 failure with code 43-933. Anything I should worry about here. I only get it on one of my 2 HR22's. Haven't noticed any channel problems lately. I ran the test because I was trying to see why TVApps won't works.
I've checked all the cables between the multi and the receiver and re-ran the test several time with the same result.
What did the error tell you? You had to get more then that.

Satellite Dish Alignment Problem
Your satellite dish may need a pointing adjustment that might be causing searching for satellite signal issues. Please check whether trees or leaves are blocking the satellite signal to your dish or if you have snow or ice on the dish. If it is raining or snowing, please repeat this test when the weather clears. If you continue to experience searching for satellite signal messages please call Customer Service at 1-800-DIRECTV and report the diagnostic code displayed below.

Please post back with your signal readings for each satellite's transponders (and both tuners if applicable). You'll find these readings under "Menu" -> "Setup" -> "System Setup" -> Satellite -> "View Signal Strength". Note the "+" and "-" symbols next to the "Satellite" and "Tuner" entries where you can toggle the readings between the various satellites and both DVR tuners.
Fill in your readings for each satellite and tuner using these examples. A properly aligned dish will show 80-90s on most of the relevant transponders (although some will be low or zero):

This problem is only on one receiver. Is the signal strength info still helpfull?

Well, that is really the only place to start. Either it's a false error, or you have signal strength issues on that receiver. My guess is it's not a real error, since you only get it on one DVR, but seeing your signals is the only place to really determine that.

What about Tuner 2?

I remember getting that same error message a couple of NRs ago with good signal strengths. I wouldn't sweat it too much.

those 101 don't look low?
I had the same error. Last week I had a service call and it was the switch outside. Once he changed that it was all good.

You definitely have a problem with the 101 signals, they are very low.
What about Tuner 2?
Oops, I'll add tuner 2 tonight.

Since the other HR22 doesn't show the error I was thinking the switch was fine, but who knows.
Edit: I called support last night. The tech said this error is quite often from cabling when it's only seen on one receiver.
Here's my signal levels for both tuners. Pretty close it looks like.

Both tuners look good, except for the 101º readings. I'm guessing a defective LNB?

Could that still be if my other HR22 doesn't show the error?
Edit: Just looked at my H23 and most all the 70's and 80's levels I show on DVR's are in the 90's on the H23 .

Try swapping the two boxes. See if the low readings stay in that room, or follow the HR22. Then you'll know if it's a DVR problem, or a problem with the cables feeding that room.
I ran the test a couple times today and no error. Weather is the same as yesterday.

Forget about running the test. Your issue has already been diagnosed with much greater detail than the test will tell you. Your signal levels on the 101* satellite on the HR22 at that location stink. Your signal levels on the other satellites are pretty good, so dish allignment most likely is not an issue. Assuming your HR23 at the other location (getting all 90s on the 101* sat) is hooked up to the same dish/mutiswitch, the LNB/multiswitch is most likely not an issue. I would concentrate on the cable runs to the HR22 location. Are there any diplexers, line amps or anything of the sort in the cable run? Is the cable run RG6 solid copper center conductor? If you remove the b-band converters, and attach the cable directly, do your signal strengths on the 101* then show in the 90s?

Have you tried swapping the two boxes?

I've had the exact same issue as the OP, with an HR 20-100, exact same error message and verbiage. I've also just recently experienced 771 on tuner 1, and got my first grayscreen recording on a local channel yesterday (football game, alas). I can clear the 771 by tuning to another channel, then back to the one that was first giving me the 771, but I can't do that when I'm not there. Any gray screen recordings will get the wife mad pretty quickly. Looks like a call to CS is in order...
I usually look here to see if others are having the same problems (remember Club 771?) before calling CS.
Have you tried swapping the two boxes?
No. It's such a pita that I hate to do it.
I called Directv and they said I should have it looked at as it will most likely get worse. I added the protection plan and they are coming tomorrow.
I have all very new RG6 everywhere and would be surprised it the cables inside are an issue.
