I really use DOD a lot. Several times a week in fact. If some of my co-workers are talking about at movie I log on at work and try to see if its on the list at directv.com so that its ready when I get home. I also download some movies for the kids. I was wondering what anyone would think about having an option to add movies to the list. For example, if I want to see Wedding Crashers then I go log into my account and then have a section where I can tell Directv what I want to get. I know you can just get netflix or blockbuster but since I have the DOD why not use them.

This can also be incorporated into the TvApps. Since both DOD and TvApps require network connections it wouldnt require much change to the firmware.

Any thoughts?

I think it won't be long before they will have a per charge service like that as well. I would not even put it past them to partner with Netflix or Blockbuster to provide it. But I can guaranty that you will never see it for free.

Personally, I have never used either service and cannot imagine me using the other. I use DOD for free stuff in a blue moon. But I buy the dvds.

I wouldnt even mind NetFlix or Blockbuster to stream through my STB. Maybe through a TvApp or something. I just want to have more STB's for each service.

I don't know about Blockbuster, but I think you can stream Netflix to your STB with Tversity Pro or Playon.

The issue here isn't really what you think... the available programming is pretty much dictated by the studios through carriage agreements, not by DirecTV.

One of the reasons that you don't see a lot of product available on Netflix' instant service is that the studio's haven't figure out how to get their piece of the pie. They want to be able to wring every penny out of their prduct that they can, and that's really not unreasonable... it is their product.

With all the movies already on OnDemand free and PPV Im pretty sure Directv has a good enough relationship that they can carry any movie they want. Im sure the selection is based on demand of consumers. Thats why I think a request area would increase selection and if the fee was small enough would great revenue. I dont expect them all to be free. There is a few DOD movies that are older that Directv still charges for but at a much lower rate.
