Hi all,

I am posting this here regarding my R22 as I would like to get input from those experienced with both the R22 and HR-21.

I had my Samsung 51 inch flat screen (HD ready) connected to my R22 by component via my Magnavox DVD recorder. When we wanted to play a DVD, we just pushed "play" and the movie would play. When we pushed "stop", the DTV programming would be on. We never had to change the TV input or anything.

Then I got an HDMI cable and connected the TV directly to the R22 via HDMI. The DVD recorder is connected directly to the TV via component. We now have to switch TV input to choose whether to watch a DVD or satellite television.
(This is just the groundwork for you to see how it is set up).

After we switched to HDMI, anything viewed from the DVD recorder is now very green with a loud humming/buzzing occurring. This does not occur when viewing from the R22.

And the other strange thing that happened is that we cannot turn on the TV with the "On" button as we could before. We used to push one button to turn on the receiver and the TV. Now we have to slide the remote button to the "TV" option and press the "power" button. Minor issue, but strange never the less. We can still turn everything "off" with one button and the volume and input buttons work. Just not the "on".

Can anyone advise? PS - we do not have HD, just an HD capable television.

The first issue sounds like a ground loop to me. I recommend that you have all of the above devices plugged into a single power strip, and make sure the outlet the power strip is plugged into is grounded.

TV manufacturers often don't ground their connections properly or consistantly, so it isn't as unusual as you might think to get different results with different types of connections.

As far as the second issue, I don't know, unless it's somehow related to the first issue.
