MPEG2 Alternatives

Is it possible that future DBS will use other video technologies like RealVideo, QuickTime or Windows Media instead of MPEG2? And if not, how about MPEG4?

Only MPEG-2 is supported by actual hardware circuitry rather than software processing. MPEG-4 is still thought by many to be the heir apparent, but it is the basis for DiVX, XViD, Windows Media (version I forget) and with the MPAA and company hard against even fair use much less piracy, it is unlikely to be widely adopted soon. Of course, business inertia alone would suggest MPEG-2 being in place for quite a long time.
