Hey guys great forum! I am a day old newbie to Directv and was wondering if you had any tips or reconfiguring for my setup. I have an HR23-700 box along with a D12-300. Is there any thing I can do do mod these boxes along with I would like to be able to connect the Hr23 box to my network to be able to watch recorded dvr shows. Thanks for any suggestions or pointers you may have to offer.
Ps if there is an FAQ somewhere, please point me in that direction.

I'm not sure what sort of mods you are talking about, but there really is nothing you can do with the new D* receivers like you could with the old TiVo units, if that's what you mean. You can expand your DVR's capacity by adding an external (eSATA) hard drive. Or, if you actually own the unit (which is rare as most are leased), you could replace the internal hard drive. That's about it for hardware upgrades.
As for watching shows recorded on the DVR, there is a piece of software known as "DIRECTV2PC". You can find out about it here:

It will allow you to stream recorded show to your PC. You can only watch the recording - you can't capture the stream digitally. The only way to transfer a recording from a D* DVR is via analog outputs to a recording device (i.e. DVD burner).
