Hi all,

I've been searching these forums and any others I can think of to fix this issue. I've had this HR23-700 DVR for about 8 months. Starting with the 2nd software update, everytime a new software update was released and pushed to my DVR, the box freezes up. I'll wake up in the morning, and my box will be frozen with just the power button lit. A hard reset tries searching for new software, but it never finds or downloads it. It just goes to a complete blank blue screen, and another hard reset gets the box up and running, on the old software.

I've tried forcing a software update, but can't get that to work. 02468 at the hello screen right? Yup, doesn't work. I've pressed slow, fast, been right in front of the box with the remote, doesn't work.

I've got the box hooked up to the net, is there a way to update that way, or through a flash drive?

Any ideas of things I can try to fix this issue? Restarting every single morning is time consuming if I don't want to miss any daily shows.

Thanks!

Nate

There should be no need to force a download .. Simply call DIRECTV as you may have a problem with your STB.

I love how you search the forums to death and most of what you turn up is someone asks a simple and direct question, and the replies are almost always NOT the answer to the question.

"how do I force a download if the usual instructions <hold record-down arrow> don't work?"

"you don't need to force a download"

"that wasn't my question, and if you didn't have an answer why did you post?"

"because i want you to feel stupid and despite me being neither knowledgeable or helpful, i want you to believe that i'm smarter than you"

"oh. okay. thanks."

Actually, the original poster indicated his problem was the HR23 freezes after a software download. He indicated that he IS using the correct procedure to force a download, but the unit is not responding. Further information that the box requires restarting every morning.

Given the information provided, Doug suggested that contacting DirecTV was what he needed to do. Either the DVR is defective, or there is another problem with his installation (which could include the LNB, wiring, dish alignment, BBC's, etc.).

I respectfully disagree. In nearly all cases, problems are solved here by some very knowledgeable and experienced posters.

Of course, there are a few posters who will divert a thread, or add little to it, but that's life in the public arena. (Uh, perhaps a post like yours?)

Doug doesn't need us to speak for him, but the OP was NOT asking how to force an update (he's clearly tried by using the correct procedure), but was asking what he should do next to solve his issue. He clearly has serious issues and should head Doug's advice.

Perhaps you should read the OP again. He already knew how to force a download. His question was "Any ideas of things I can try to fix this issue?"... and his question was answered.
