has anyone bought a hd dvr from best uy? if so does it come with B-Band Converter module or are they needed on dvr's?

Yes, they are retail units and come with all required cabled and accessories.
HDMI, Component, AV wires. Phone, power cord and BBCs. Unless of course it is a HR 23
my son just pointed out that if i had searched forum i would have found answer. i will have to start using search.

It needs to be noted that you would be LEASING, not buying, the DVR obtained via Best Buy, or any other retailer. The only way to buy new equipment and own it is to buy it directly from DirecTV as "owned" equipment (most CSRs won't know you can do that, but you can). The only exception is the commercial HR21 Pro model.

Also, before you pluck down your $199 at Best Buy, it would behoove you to give DirecTV a call. They often beat this price.
However, if you want to ensure that you get a brand new unit, a little browsing on the web can result in savings too. I just saw that someone in another thread got a BRAND NEW HR23 for $179 including shipping from NewEgg.
