When we signed up. To get the promo we had. We had to let DTV remove the money automatically with a checking account or credit. The promo was good for the first year. Now we will be paying full price. Have had a couple billing issues. The latest being charging us for HBO when it suppose to be free for 3 months when we moved. They gave us a credit back. But, it was hell getting it. Is it possible now to remove automatic withdraws and pay when we want before the due date? This way if there is a error in billing. I can pay the correct amount. Or are we stuck and locked in paying automatic withdraw for the full 2 years?

You can change your billing methods online. If you're no longer getting the credits you wouldn't be impacted but if you are then it would stop the credits.

I havent heard of anyone being able to remove autobill. I know a lot of people were grandfathered in. You may want to call and asked nicely and see if they let you. Whether or not your promo ends they will continue to charge your account directly. Maybe call them and see what other promo you can get now.

I was able to get auto pay removed a few months ago, and did it all via email.

And I haven't heard of any company that is allowed to keep you locked into autopay without you being able to opt out.

To the OP, I would turn off autopay right away. Much more trouble than it's worth if ANYTHING goes a little sideways, as you are experiencing now.

I believe in the OP's situation it was probably related to credit history, or the promo, or both, so it may not be possible to undo the autopay until the promo runs out or his credit improves if that was also a factor.

I would never allow any variable bill to be drafted directly from my bank account. Car and mortgage payments are fine because those are contractual amounts that won't change (well, except for ever-increasing taxes and insurance, but that's always disclosed well ahead of time). With utilities and services like cell phones, and satellite or cable TV, you never know when a billing error could unexpectedly drain your account. And while most companies are very quick to take money, they can be ridiculously slow to give it back.

In this case, if D* refuses to allow the auto draft to be canceled, then I'd close the account. I'm sure that will result in them contacting you for an alternate payment method.

Again a great alert to consumers that a debit card is not exactly like a credit card. And never, ever, ever use a debit card for auto billing or to secure an account like Directv, unless you have no other choice and are willing to accept the potential "account draining".

Might be more worth while $$ to ask CS what promos you'd quallify for if you kept auto pay...!

as already said in the below quote.;)
