I have a cabin in Northern Michigan that I visit once a year for 2 weeks, I live full time in Las Vegas, NV. I have a dish set up on the property and bring my box from home and plug it in. I reconfigure the box to the Dish that I have installed on the property however I do not receive local channels from Las Vegas or the Local area. Do I need to adjust the dish to a different satellite. I am not interested in changing my service or paying for a second account at a cabin that I only visit for two weeks each year. Thanks for any input.

You won't get the Las Vegas locals because the spot beam doesn't reach into Michigan.

You could probably change addy's twice a year for the 2 weeks and then go back just dont use the movers program.

Yep, just call D* and tell the CSR the situation. They should be able to reset the "home address" of your receivers remotely. You'll probably have to reset/redo the satellite setup a couple of times to get the new info to take on the receivers, but it's not too cumbersome.

Could he receive the locals OTA using an HR20 or AM21? Or will the OTA tuners in the receiver or AM21 only recognize those in his registered location?

It recognizes the local markets (up to 2) based strictly on the zip code you enter during OTA setup.

Where are you located in northern Michigan?
Traverse City/Cadillac locals cover a good portion of the northern part of the lower peninsula and the eastern half of the upper peninsula. They offer both SD and HD. The Alpena DMA which covers a couple of counties doesn't have locals yet.
Traverse City/ Cadillac SD locals at one time were on the 72.5 satellite and may have been moved to another satellite.
The western half of the UP doesn't offer Directv locals, with the exception of a few counties right along the Wisconsin border. These locals would be from Green Bay or Duluth.
