I had to have Dish send me a new 508 as the old one kept pausing during playback of anything recorded. So I open the box and the one they sent me looks different on the front than my old one. Is there any issue with "older versions" of 508 vs. "newer versions"?

It's definitely a 508 and it's downloading the new software now, I just don't want to get stuck with an old refurb.

My old one had EchoStar down in the lower left hand corner, this one doesn't, it has DishPvr

Tack (Swedish for Thanks),

I am not so sure that arefurb is sucha bad thing if it has been properly tested. Most electronic components fail early. IF the faulty component(s) were replaced the unit should not be less relaiable. But I agree that it should be disclosed to you.

Actually it's a newer one. Some where along the way Dish made some minor changes to the face of the 508. When the 508s started to be phased in they had the Echostar logo and a small DP logo on the smart card door, a Dish Network logo on the top right hand corner and nothing in the top left. The 508s being shipped now only have the small DP logo on the door, the Dish logo moved to the left and there’s DishPVR logo on the right. You will notice one other difference though, on the back the toslink jack is the newer style with the door not a plug like when the 508s first started to be produced.

If you read the warranty it states a remanufactured product can be exchanged for a defective receiver. But that may be a good thing some Remans. are better than the originals.

I do not know whether to believe that seeing how I had 3 501's go bad and all were replaced with remanufactured receivers. Others have said they had similar problems. They all went bad within the first year, mostly within the first 4-6 months. I would have thought myself that they would be better since they go through more testing. Perhaps it is not that it did not get tested more but the issue they have with the recievers are still being replaced with faulty parts in which need to be changed.
