I have a HR10-250 (TiVo) in a bedroom hooked up to a 13" SD (analog) TV.
The inability to receive some MPEG4 only channels is getting a bit annoying (MGM, Universal, Starz Comedy, etc.).
I don't want a tech visit - the wife and I are out of the house Mon-Fri from about 6:30am to 8pm and we're not missing work for a simple box swap!
How do I get DirecTV to replace it with something new(er) without a tech visit?

Unless you already have either an AT9 (older 5LNB KaKu [HD]) dish or a newer Slimline KaKu HD capable dish, You're going to need one to make any difference anyhow. There's no way that you'll ever receive more HD channels with an old 18x20 phase3 dish, no matter what box they send you. You might have to just make some time ;)

To clarify, I have a Slimline KaKu dish already. I have an H20 & HR-20 in other rooms. This is just kind of an "extra" set in one bedroom.
Pick up a used Hr20 on ebay, just make sure you call and check to see if the receiver is owned or leased. You need the Receiver number from the seller to do this. 90% of the sellers I've asked gladly provided that. Hr20's can be had for $50 to $200.
Or, you could call D and tell them your Hr10 died and see if they will send you a replacement.
In my area they will come out on Sat or Sun. I got 3 H21's and a HR23 for an upgrade special last year. Tech could have come out on the weekend if I wanted to wait 6 weeks.

Was the HR10 already "upgraded" to an HR2x model in the past and you kept the HR10 active? If that is the case you probably arent eligible for a free replacement, but you should just be able to go on-line to your D* acct, and go to add equipment, if the wiring is already in place, you should be able to just choose self install and they'll send it out.
