I need a sanity check. I'm trying to replace my SL5 LNB with an SL3S but I get searching for signal on both DVR's.
Here's what I've done. Approximately, 40 ' of RG6 from ODU to SWM/ODU port on PI, from IRD port on PI to red IN port on SWS4. From two out ports on SWS4 to Sat 1 IN on both STB's (minus BBC's). Terminated the remaining two unused out ports (including red out port) on SWS4.
When I reboot STB's I get searching for signal.
I feel like the setup is correct. Could it be a bad LNB or PI? Any trouble shooting suggestions?

Don't know if it matters but my swm setup is dish to splitter, pi between first reciever and splitter on the red port. But I think your way works as well. Did you tell the receiver it's on swm now in the sat setup? You do need to do that.

PI should light up green if OK,check for 21-25 volts DC at the cable going to the SL3S LNB.
Reset all equipment (red button) when going from standard to SWM operation,do guided setup for SWM.:)

I'm getting green light on PI. I've actually been pulling the plug on the STB's to ensure full power off when swapping the LNB's. And yes, I'm rerunning guided setup at startup.
Does the SWS-4 need dc going through the power passing ports? I thought I could just terminate the power passing port if the PI is between the LNB and the splitter.
I'll try running it with the PI into the SWS-4.

The power inserter blocks "downstream" power (i.e., from the receivers), so that only signal (and the power the PI supplies) gets through. Therefore, it doesn't matter if you're using the power-passing port on the splitter or not, given the location of your PI.
By your description, everything is connected properly. I'd double-check all the cables, and make sure none of the connectors are shorted.

Have you tried re-running the sat setup after swapping the SWiM LNB?

if you are a tech youshould have a blue swm test meter which if everything is hooked up right will give you 5 lights. verify that you indeed have voltage at the dish, if all you did was swap lnb's then its possible you have a faulty lnb or that you may need to retune, if you hook up your birdog with the power pass splitter but you only get a 70-89 % signal with no signal to noise ratio % locked then your LNB is bad.

Yep, doing that... still getting SFS.

I've swapped cables and still no change.

Not a tech, apparently I'm a DIY monkey!
Well, I'm leaning toward a bad LNB at this point... but thanks for all the help.
