My 501 is over a year old and been working fine. Over the past few days I have noticed that the hard drive is making much more noise then ever before. Is this normal or is it something I should be concerned about?
Did you invest in the $1.99 extended warranty? If not call DISH and buy it you must be covered for a month before filing a claim. Anyone who has a hard drive without this protection is their own worst enemy.

When getting this warranty do not mention any problems that you are currently having or they may not allow a replacement when the warranty kicks in. It takes 30 days to take in affect. After that period of time call in and let them hear the noise for themselves by putting the phone right up to the hard drive. They have a deal for $149 for selected custoemrs for a new 508, you can get up to two and sell your replacement for the 501 for what you pay for a new 508 and gain 30 hours of record time with the receiver.

I am under the "dish home" plan, wouldn't it be covered?

Yes, you would be covered under the Dish Home Plan where you are leasing the receivers and all receivers are covered.

I am, Thanks.
You are far better off with the Digital Home Plan than the extended warranty. Your labor and shipping charges are covered as long as you are renting from DISH Network

Customers can get a warranty for $4.99 a month as well covering lacor costs.
