What's your audio output(HDMI, Coax, Optical. R/L stereo ) and where is it connected?

Dolby Digital on or off?

Dolby Digital, HDMI going straight from box to TV.

The HR20-700 was previously hooked up to this TV all the same cables and never had the problem with that one.

Does it happen when changing channels say from one channel with DD to one with DD? Or, does it happen going from SD to HD or any other combination of formats?

SD to HD doesn't seem to make a difference.

Not sure on DD or non-DD.

Yup. HR23 is the only difference.

Is a popping sound or beeping sound? I ask because I remember when I pressed the wrong key or pressed keys too fast I had a sound that was similar but it wasnt a popping sound.

Sharp Aquos? If so, I'll tell you right now .. Go Component instead of HDMI on the HR23-700.

Nope. Sony Bravia KBSV5100 I think.

Did not have this problem with the HR20-700 same cables, TV and everything.

Just unplugged HR20 and plugged in HR23.

Are both devices grounded to the same point (i.e., both plugged into the same outlet)? Grounding may be the problem.

What's the issue with the Aquos?

I would like to know too. I have a Sharp Aquos and was gonna go with a HR23-700 tomorrow. I have HR21-200 now. The HR21 is so slow. HR23 is snappier but I wont use it if there is a known common problem with the it and the Sharp Aquos.

maybe try a different HDMI cable if you have a spare laying around....

But used this same cable with HR20-700. There is something up with the HR23-700.

The HR23-700 might be allowing for the HDMI specs newer than when the HR20 was built.

The same thing happens with my HR23. I've got DD off though.

The HR23-700 might be allowing for the HDMI specs newer than when the HR20 was built. With exception of the HR20-700, all the HR2x's have the same chip (BCM7401) so it's likely they all support the same HDMI spec (HDMI 1.1).

Although, I guess the current version of the 7401 might have some updated specs in it.

If you don't have any issues with the HR21-200, you won't have the problem with the HR23-700, but I've found that I cannot use HDMI with anything other than the HR20 on any of my 3 Aquos sets.

That being said, I have older models (circa 2004 or 2005) and the issues I'm experiencing may not exist in newer models. It's more of a crackling noise any time you do trick play than anything else. Doesn't show up on Component.

I don't have that problem with my HR23 but I do have it with the HR21.

If you're going straight to the TV, there's no real benefit to Dolby Digital, and turning it off will very likely solve the problem.

Found the situation that makes it happen... Native is set to on.

When I turn off Native resolution it does not make the sound.

When the DVR changes the resolution I get the popping sound.

ie 720 to 1080

I would like to know if anyone else has this problem when setup the same way.
