Thanks in advance for your help.

I have a slimline 5 - lnb on my roof for my in-home DirecTV systems.

Am going to add a new HD DVR (replace an SD DVR in the bedroom) and will set it up for the slimline 5 lnb.

However, I'd like to also use that receiver for my tailgates, and I plan to use a slimline 3 lnb at the tailgates (gets all the channels I need -- Houston locals -- and should be easier to set up each time).

My question -- will I need to change the receiver to 3 lnb set up each time, or can I just hook it to the 3 lnb while set up for 5?

I think it would still get the channels I need for the tailgate and I won't be away from 119 long enough to lose the guide data -- does that sound right?

Also, if anyone tailgates in College Station Texas with a slimline 3 lnb, what settings are you using?

Thanks!

For that short period you should be ok.

But, it only takes a few minutes to change it, so...

I would change it each time. Otherwise you might get annoying error messages popping up.

the 3LNB and the 5LNB using different frequency stacking strategies, so you should change it when switching back and forth between the 2 types of dishes...thats why people with no LOS to 119 cant "fix" it by just changing the dish type to 3LNB when they really have a 5LNB, it just doesnt work like you want it to.

For convenience you could replace the 5 sat. LNB with a 3 sat. version. It isn't difficult and wouldn't require realignment of your dish.

I assume you mean on my house ... that's a great idea.

So I could just order the new LNB and put in on the existing dish without changing anything?

Cool.

That will work just fine. Just be careful to not move the dish when you swap the SL5 with the SL3 LNB.
