View Full Version : Slimline install seeing 99/103 with R15
Probably a silly question as it appears one cannot see 99 and 103 with a R15 receiver. Today, we installed the Slimline dish using this receiver and set the tuner for the Slimline 5lnb setting. Our readings seemed to peak at 92 for 101, 95 for 110 and 96 for 119. Once I upgrade to an HD receiver, is it probable that we'll need to tune the dish as it may be out of alignment for 99/103?
Thank you.

Yes it is possible and most likely simply because the beam peak for the Ka band is much narrower than the 101/110/119 Ku band's. However your coarse adjustments and tilt settings will be fine, but the vernier adjustments (the numbered wheel bolts) will require fine tuning either using the dither process if using a meter. Or better yet the two person system (cell phone to wire phone or vice-versa) where one is making the fine adjustments to the dish while the other is watching the signal strength meter screens on 99(c) and 103(c) for best readings.

It's very likely the dish isn't going to be aligned for 99c/103c. You can usually only get 99c/103c signals in the 90s if you are seeing 100s on many of the 101 and 119 transponders. But it's probably only going to be fine-tuning, as HoTat2 posted.

Simply peaking the signal isn't adequate, but if you carefully follow the dither method described in the instruction sheet with comes with the dish, you should be in good shape for 99 and 103.

^ yeah, what he said.
If you're good at dithering off 101, you "should be" close for 99/103.
