I need a good free way to encrypt my usb drive. I found some programs but it seems that you have to have the program installed on all the computers you would use the drive with or it wont work. I wont something where no matter what computer i conntect it to a window will pop up asking for a password when i plug it in. Any suggestions?

Look at the IronKey (www.ironkey.com) or the Sony Micro Vault with Fingerprint recognition.

Look at TruCrypt. It will not prompt you, but it is portable, and you can get it for Windows, Mac and Linux. That's what I use.

At work ... Some companies does not allow use it at all.

He is 'maverick' and don't manage those computers - he need the thumb drive be an active part.

The encryption works on the fly for both the USB flash drives and CD/DVD writer.

It is true that it must be on any machines that he wants to read the flash drive on. In that case he's limited to something like PGP.
