Why can't I use DirecTV2PC to access one of the live tuners on my HR series? This would make for Slingbox like functions without having to add any additional hardware. It would also give us Media Center functionality within the already approved DirecTV framework. I would never leave the DirecTV2PC interface if this were the case. I would just access all of my HR series over the network and put a PC in every room instead of a receiver. Then I could keep them all in the media closet and just run Cat6 everywhere.

I am typing this on my 52" LCD at 1920x1080p. I would love to be watching the Yankees/Twins game at the same time.

I know I am crazy, but isn't this a good kind of crazy?

Actually, all they have to add is a recording or scheduling function into the software. They already offer remote scheduling, may as well add it to Directv2PC.

I suppose technically it could be done as "all" DIRECTV2PC does is read a recording from the DVR hard drive and stream it to the DIRECTV2PC client, and the buffer of the live tuner is recorded to the hard drive.

With one DVR multiple clients can access multiple recordings on the hard drive, but in the event of the live buffer, who would have control of that live buffer? What if the user in front of the DVR wants channel 202, but the user in front of the DIRECTV2PC client wants channel 206 and yet another user in front of the DIRECTV2PC client wants channel 209?

Ya that wouldn't be good to "take" a live tuner from a DVR that someone would technically be using.

I just usually start recording something I want to watch on the PC from the DVR, then watch it "live". Works fine.

"One problem":
Only one DirecTV2PC client can access the DVR at one time.

Why not?

We already "take a live tuner" when we borrow it for DoublePlay. Why can't I borrow it for DirecTV2PC instead?

It would be a simple matter to put a prompt at either end (on the HR or the DirecTV2PC client) that says something like "Hey, I need this tuner to record. One of you has to give up the tuner."

I just think that this would give us ultimate flexibility and should be relatively simple to implement, since it can already stream recorded content.

Some things may not be "as simple" as you might think.
Not sure where the live buffer resides on the drive, as there are several partitions.

Very simple, schedule the game with your iPhone or web browser (you're at your computer anyway) and watch it immediately on Directv2pc.

I've done it a couple of times but I'd still rather watch the TV.

I've done it a couple of times but I'd still rather watch the TV.I have done this as well since my son was playing a video game so I just signed in like you said and did the remote recording on directv.com. I've also gotten used to making a recording while 'blind' so to speak. In other words, since he's using the TV, I'll just point the remote at the DVR, put on the channel I want and then press 'R' then 'Select'.

It would be nice if you could use one of the live tuners.
