Not right away. Currently, NFL Channel is an exclusive on DirecTV, so it may be a few years. Next year though, they plan to go on digital cable.

ugh, why does the NFL ignore their fans who don't get DirecTv? I wouldn't buy the Sunday ticket anyway, but I would watch the NFL channel.

Because DirecTV paid a HUGE chunk of money to the NFL for the exclusive rights to Sunday Ticket and The NFL Channel probably came with it. It's all about money, not fans. Who needs fans when a company is willing to pay 400 million dollars...........

Bobby: do you think they will get the 2 million customers they need to just break even, or will this be one expensive loss leader.

With it not being on C-Band any longer, I would say yes.

DirectTV is gambling that if you are a NFL fan, that you'll subscribe to D* and has put up the money to back that up.

Scott G: That's not the way accounting works. That just happens to be what we focus on here. The merger and Sunday Ticket negotions were discussed heavily on this sight, and the verdicts came in days of each other, so it was easy for us to say that the $600 million "paid" for the $2 billion Sunday Ticket deal, but you can't just that. The Sunday Ticket deal wasn't contingent on the $600 million. They could've gotten the $600 millon AND paid far less for a non-exclusive NFL deal, possibly only losing minimal customers. You can't pair up arbitrary expenses and revenues for your convenience, although we tend to pair up those 2.

However, the fees charged for Sunday ticket are contigent on the $2 billion fee. The $600 million was a 1 time breakup fee put on that quarters balance of Dish and Direct, and that's it. You can't keep using it to balance the annual cost of Sunday Ticket. They do pay that in $400 million annual increments, right. Dish, BTW could say that it was compensated for the $600 million from a investment bankers breakup compensation.

They don't have to get 2 million customers every year to break even. Much of the fee is paid by commercial subscribers who pay much more than than residential customers.

Doesn't Dish make money and DirectTV lose money?

The NFL channel and Sunday ticket are not the same thing. I think The NFL will be launching a new 24 hour channel when the season starts. I do not know if DISH will have it. I hear it will have a sporting news type schedule but I do not think it will have any games.

The NFL Channel will only be available on Direc TV. I love Direc Tv and that is the main reason why i have Direc Tv because of Sunday Ticket. Long Live Football!!!! :goodjob:

NFL Network to launch on Election Day

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/6474217

"At launch, NFL Network will be cleared in more than 11,400,000 U.S. homes as part of an agreement with DIRECTV's basic service. It is expected that NFL Network will have carriage agreements with cable operators prior to the Nov. 4 launch. "

Maybe E* will pick it up too.

If they offer it to cable operators, do they have to offer it to Dish as well? Everyone who has Dish, and wants the NFL Channel should email Dish and let them know. Is ceo@echostar.com the best addy to let them know we want the NFL channel when it debuts?

Michael, I planned on shooting off an email to Dish programming in regards to my interest in the NFL channel.
