according to Dishnet's software upgrade page...
Currently it shows there that some 2700s/2800s/3700s IRDS are getting new Software version...
Not every IRD is getting it yet
Some reported that after new upgrade 3700s can get Local Channels under ch 100? (Is that so? Anyone can confirm this?)
Also Dishnet's page shows that some 6000s are getting new software version as well (Again - not everyone is getting it yet, until it is finalized i guess)
Anyone got this one also? - What's new in it?

Software versions can be found here (http://www.dishnetwork.com/content/customerCare/technical/software_versions/index.asp).
I have a 6000 & a 4900. I'm hoping that the 7.78 version has something substantive in it. But I doubt that they fixed the PSIP.

I suspect that 7.78 will just include support for satellites at 105.

Perhaps its to make them Dish500 card ready.

Local channels are now mapped to their OTA channel numbers as well as their 8000 block number ! (Same s/w is on my 2700)
"Dish500 Card Ready"
I don't know what else yet.

Scooper, What model number is your receiver? I have a 4900 and it has remapped for a while now. But my 6000 doesn't, which is correct since the sub 100 channels are from the OTA module. The 6000 is still on Rev 7.77 here.

Cyclone - i am pretty sure he was talking about 2700s/2800s/3700s:
"(Same s/w is on my 2700)"
in any case - according to Dishnet's software page - only software for 2700s/2800s/3700s is finalized,
The 6000 is still in "testing" mode and not finalized yet (it has 2 dates there...so...)
Check it out - the link is above (i think)
LOL - ya it's there - you posted it :)

I called the in March & again the other day. Either the 3700 or 3800 was fixed, and now has the program in guide.
They promise the 6000 will have the program in guide also.

Wouldn't it be funny that the 6000 would finally get a solid great program in guide feature right when the 811 is about to be released? If the 6000 ends up getting a really good update, I might not be so eagar to get the 811.

hehe - What a heck is program in guide people? :)
You mean "Picture-in-Guide"? (if so - do 2700/2800/3700s have "Picture-in-guide" now?!)
scooper
07-11-03, 07:25 AM
Cyclone - I have two receivers - one 4700 (upgraded to 4900) and a 2700. My first post was talking about my 2700 - the new SW features.

scooper,
Do you have that "program in guide" ( or "picture-in-guide" or whatever it is :) ) - mentioned above after 2700/2800/3700s upgrade?
If so - what exactly it is? :)

My 6000 units upgraded to 7.78 and now the only difference I can tell is that they are now "Dish 500 Card Ready" (on the sysinfo screen).

Yup they are getting ready for the card swap. :)
Bye Bye Pirates (well at least for a little while) :D

It would be nice if they could get the card swap done before pirates break the new system... I would love to see a pirate proof system (or one where the mods are more expensive than just subscribing).

Mike - just as some predicted... (re: "they are now "Dish 500 Card Ready" (on the sysinfo screen)").
Scott - to me this Green "Dish 500 Card Ready" thinggy is kinda "cosmetic" anyhow (it actually looks good - hehe) :)
Why cosmetic? - Cuz if there is a Card Swap, i doubt that "hiding behind (at Older software version" - without "Dish 500 Card Ready" thinggy at Sys Info screen) would take away one's opportunity and honour to participate in the Card Swap :D

hey Mike, interesting you got the 6000s upgrade, cuz i checked Dishnet's software upgrade page, and 6000s upgrade is not finalized yet :) ( i guess you were one of the lucky ones )
Maybe 6000s are "really close" to being finalized then... (Who knows - maybe even today, or already - just the page maybe hasn't been updated yet) :)

So the new PIP in guide on the 2700/2800/3700 is not OpenTv based then? I did not think they had enough memory in those receivers to do that, or perhaps its just different than the OpenTv that they used in the 3900/4900/current receivers. Is it the new program guide like what is found on the OpenTv receivers as well?
One concern with the card swap is what is going to be done about these receivers that are not on? Are they going to charge for new cards? This is going to create some problems as well. I guess I would have to activate all the receivers I have in time for the card swap so I would not get stuck with a big bill to replace them unless they were going to just replace them for free in which they will probably try to charge just like DirecTv does.

The old receivers will probably be sent a new card when they are activated (and will not be usuable until the new card is inserted)

I haven't seen if it has the Picture in guide - I hated that on my 4700 so I turned that feature to full screen guide. It might actually be a useful feature on a 501 or 721, but for non-dual tuners - it's worse than useless, IMHO.
Darkman
07-11-03, 02:56 PM
so what does Program in guide mean then already? :)
same as Picture in Guide? - lol
scooper
07-11-03, 05:21 PM
I don't see the picture in guide as an option on my 2700 . Which suits me just fine.
Darkman
07-11-03, 05:40 PM
Do you see a Program in Guide "somewhere there" maybe then? :D
Jacob S
07-11-03, 09:50 PM
They mean the same as picture in guide in which is also referred to as PIP but dont confuse it with PIP where you watch two shows at once in which the 721 does this.
Darkman
07-11-03, 09:55 PM
So - Picture in guide (AKA Program in guide, AKA PIP) is at 2700/2800/3700s now - after this new software upgrade or not?
Anyone?
Jacob - thanks for clarification btw
Jacob S
07-11-03, 10:34 PM
Personally I would not expect the Picture in Guide for the 2700, 2800, 3700 receivers due to the lack of memory.
My 2700...no picture in guide option. Locals mapped to respective number and Dish 500 card ready.
Darkman

Thanks Mike,
Mike - no option on Main Menu to "enable" Picture in guide by any chance?

No!!
HOW MANY TIMES DO WE HAVE TO REPEAT THIS, DARKMAN !?!?!

Dish 500 Card Ready is what the main reason for this software upgrade is. They just happened to put the local channel mapping in them at the same time as well.

oh-oh, my fault, sorry :)
was going to answer your post in a simular manner as you did: (example: IN A SIMULAR MANNER AS YOU DID) - lol,
But before doing so, went one more time over the posts on Page 1, and found you say that (in one of the posts):
"I don't see the picture in guide as an option on my 2700...."
Sorry again (i missed that one)
GETTING OLD OR WHAT :)
P.S. scooper - you're off the hook i guess :hurah:

Sorry again, All
We have a 2800. It now does have channel 2,4,5,7 etc. for locals but as far as I can see has no option for picture in guide. We were not aware of the new channels capability until I just read it here.

Anyone know what the upgrades are on the 6000?
Darkman
07-13-03, 08:44 PM
read above in the thread,
I think it was reported by some that 6000 became "Dish 500 card ready" (Green writing in Sys Info screen)

I haven't been able to load the 778 into my 6000. Are they still testing?
Darkman
07-13-03, 09:30 PM
Yes, correct..
Check out the link (posted by someone on first page of this thread)...Dish's software upgrades page...
Unlike 2700s/2800s/3700s newest software (which has been finalized), 6000's 7.78 has not been finalized yet...
It still has 2 dates there at it's entry...Something like that:
6000:
7.78 7/9/2003
7.77 2/6/2003
unlike 2700s/2800s/3700s (that has only one date there) :
2700/3700/2800:
7.67 6/24/2003
so when 6000's is finalized it will look like this (more likely) :
7.78 7/9/2003
:nono2:

According to Dishnet's software page the 6000s new 7.78 upgrade is finalized now...
Only one entry is shown for it now:
6000 7.78 7/9/2003
I guess everyone should be receiving it now...

There are some reports that 2700/2800/3700s are again getting new software version..
So i checked the Dishnet's software upgrade page - and sure as Heck - as of July 24 - New version ( but it is actually the old version, cuz this upgrade is actually downgrade :) )
767 shows as previous version there, and old 766 is officially back on!
I wonder wuz up with that??? - Bugs?
Also - i noticed there - that Dishnet's is testing new software version now on some 3000s...
Not all 3000s (cuz it hasn't been finalized yet)...
Just on some 3000s (cuz both versions are shown in the box there at page) :
http://www.dishnetwork.com/content/customerCare/technical/software_versions/index.asp
in any case - the new version that they are testing for 3000s is 749 (shows as being in testing since July 23)
I added a SW21 to my setup and lost local channel mapping. Thought it may have had something to do with memory so I let it be. Glad to see it wasn't me, or my receiver. Just wonder why Dish doesn't communicate this stuff. It wasn't worth a phone call, but they should put something on the bill if they're gonna make changes to my receiver that are noticeable to me.

It seems like they went back to the old software in my 2700. The new software was causing lock ups.

This is an advantage of choosing to ask for permission before accepting new software in which is a feature in the menu.

According to the Dishnet's software page - some selective 1000s and 4000s are being in "testing" for the new software version now as well...
787 for 1000s and
763 for 4000s
It is not "wide-spread" to all irds yet...

I'm glad I found this thread. I was told the 1000, 3000 & 4000 series receivers would not be supported by the new cards and would have to be replaced at owners expence. Now I see testing is still on-going - damn good news !

If Dish would try to make the owners pay at their expense then that just would not work for those customers and they would be shutting their services off swiching to DirecTv. Dish would have to replace tehir receivers to keep those customers.
Darkman

3000's software should be "wide spread" now to all IRDs...
It has been finalized - according to Dishnet's software page
