Yeah, didn't DirecTV recently specifically say they wouldn't add it?

They said they "dont think" they would add it....but weve been thru what that exactly means in the other thread with the favre game & the jets/giants scenario.

Why? Could there be a worse time to add a premium channels that costs $15/month?

Believe it or not, some of us still like good old fashioned linear movie channels. Not that I'd pay $15/month for a single channel like Epix - but I doubt that it would cost that much.
I'm glad that Epix is launching on FiOS late this month. :)

Sorry I was quoting that figure from memory and it was a different service, since fallen by the wayside.
Apparently there are a number of different ways to "package the channel" but one of them is $1.50/month for every subscriber, or $27M per month for DirecTV were they to add it. But that number seems on the low side to me. Guess we will have to wait to find out.
It will be Dish. Directv doesn't care about premium subs.

This is your opinion rather than an official DirecTV stance I assume.
Although, this (at least) perception is one of the reasons that I left DirecTV for FiOS. :D
One of the components of Epix is supposedly a very large VoD library. This would make it of greater value to some.

From the looks of things, DirecTV will really be showing its disdain for movie fans if they do not add the channel. The exclusive content will make it more important to viewers than some of the premiums already carried by the service.
Perhaps those in power did not really think things through when they "dissed" Epix?

I think EPIX will be huge and directv is making a mistake not adding it .

I would love yo have the epix movie channel. Hopefully when the new bird goes live!
I couldn't even find an Epix web site ... just articles about Epix. Anyone have a link to the Epix web site?

By my last count they're creeping up on 150 HD movies in their VOD library. It grows every week or so.

It's still in beta:

What else is new? They show their disdain with every HD PPV channel they add.

In my book...this will only count as a premium movie channel if movies are in their OAR. It's all just inferior crap if they aren't.
They need to add more then just Epix, how about all the other HBO and Cinemax channels?

Didn't DirecTV send out a press release over a year or so ago saying they were going to carry those channels? You mean they didn't do it?

Hmmmmm.....I guess that must be why DirecTV has more subs then...
When a channel is added has little to do with "caring".
Using that same logic, Dish must not "care" about NFL football fans, as they failed to win the business of NFL Sunday Ticket.
Individual channels are added as agreements are signed and when it makes economic sense....like any other business.

They have the Redzone Channel now which shows they do care about them. Your argument is full of fail.

Seems like a factual statment since DirecTV hasn't added a premium channel in as long as I can remember.
And they have the fewest channel offerings of the premiums they do have. (3 Cinemax channels??? What provider do you know of today with that?)

DIRECTV added a slew of premiums about 18 months ago. Always looking to add more, but it's a two way street. Can't just say you're going to put up 5 more of X or Y without the programmers allowing it, the programmers agreeing to it (always contractual issues involved) plus capacity availability. Other providers, in some cases, have more Premium offerings, but they have far less sports. So those other providers have chosen to use their bandwidth for those things while D* has chosen to use it's bandwidth for something else.
So stay tuned after D12 and let's see what happens. Hopefully good things.
I see you are from Milwaukee...GO MARQUETTE WARRIORS!

I'm never going to come on here and say DirecTV should not add premiums--movies and NFL are pretty much all I watch, so of course I want more--but I can't complain too much about the balance right now.
We'll miss a lot of movies if we don't get Epix, and I'd sure love IFC-HD and TCM-HD, because those channels show movies that you won't see on the other movie channels.
Hopefully, as bandwidth becomes available, DirecTV could come closer to making everyone happy.
This is your opinion rather than an official DirecTV stance I assume.By their failure to deliver on promises, it would seem to be fact with respect to premium movie channels.
They spend an enormous amount of resources on the SPORTS PACK.

The only premium channel currently without on-demand content on DIRECTV is HBO.
It's a non starter for me since I use NetFlix. Why pay for any premium channel or PPV when you can get what you want through the mail when you want it and have access to 1000's of titles?

Well, as I subscribe to the Premiere package, it's also a non-issue to me. I'd like to see more movie channels, especially those showing exclusive movies not seen elsewhere.

I'm betting that five of the last ten movies I watched on DirecTV are not available on Blu-ray from Netflix.
The last movie I got from Netflix froze halfway thru and I had to wait two days to get a replacement.
I'm glad I have Netflix because there are some occasions when I want to watch a particular movie, but I'd go crazy trying to deal with shipping and receiving 30 or so Blu-rays per month.

I read over at dsl broadband reports that someone in the fios thread said that EPIX was going to be $9.99 a month.

This may just be the a la carte pricing, or at least as a FiOS subscriber I hope that this is the case. No way I'm paying $9.99 for a single channel when I am already subscribed to their all-inclusive movie package. But you never know, Verizon could try for the money grab. We'll find out one way or another in a week or so.

To kinda quote Brad Hamilton from "Fast Times At Ridgemont High":
"No OAR....No Dice."

I don't think that anyone knows if EPIX will air movies in OAR yet or not. Many of their VOD movies are cropped to 16:9 but that may just be because they were in a rush to get that content up - and it's just a free preview anyway. This does not necessarily mean that the linear channel won't air movies in their OAR.

Well it's true they did add premiums, but look at what was added. HD feeds of existing channels and some additional Starz channels. We all know that the Starz channels were added only because Liberty Media owns Starz and a large portion of Directv.
Don't get me wrong, I am glad those channels were added, but when compared to Dish Network, U-verse, FiOS and even TW Cable, Directv comes in dead last when it comes to premiums offered.

DIRECTV offers VOD from Starz and Showtime. Starz HD is in final testing for VOD, should come in November.
As for HBO and Cinemax on VOD, well both are owned by the same company...

I'm not disagreeing with you, it all comes down to capacity and agreements. D* covers many channels that those other providers don't...they use their capacity for certain things while D* uses their capacity for other things. Different agreements for different providers as well.
All that being said, I think when D12 is up and running there is more HD coming in many areas that D* members would like to see, should have universal appeal.

Is there any chance D* looks at adding More HBO's and Max's when D12 rolls out and could doing so open the door for HBO VOD?
Not to bump this thread, and this really doesn't have anything specifically to do with DirecTV, but since this started moving again I figured I'd put this out there. Epix is launching for real this week (Friday), and Verizon has announced a price for it - $10 ala carte price for the channel, but per the epix website, it's included in the Verizon triple play. Also, because someone asked about the epix website, they have seemed to come out of beta - so if you want to check out what they have, take a look at www.epixhd.com.

Unfortunately, the information on the EPIX website was incorrect and has been revised; EPIX is NOT available with the FiOS triple play at no extra charge. It is only available for the $9.99/month a la carte price. It is not available with any movie package. Pretty outrageous.

Yeah, I saw that. Sucks. Oh well... hopefully they'll eventually offer up an option to include it with the movie pack for a discount.

Why should Dtv waste their time on another worthless premium channel? The premium channels are totally worthless today compared to yesteryear. All they show over and over is crap 20 years old and they have evolved into typical cable channels with series w/o commercials. What a waste of time and money!
