I recently had my power company install a whole house surge protection system. Part of the package installs coax line surge arrestors. I have been having intermittent problems with my Directv signal. Randomly I get the searching for satellite signal. It lasts for a couple of hours and then everything is fine again. During the outage, my odd transponders go to zero. My even transponders are in the upper 90's. Directv has swapped out the LNB's and multiswitch.

I wanted to see if some of you who know a lot about a Directv system could tell me if the problem really is the surge protector or not. These are the specs for the surge protector.

8/20 µsec single impulse withstand capability (20,000 amps)
Protects from line to ground
Operating Frequency = 0 - 1 GHz
Response Time <5 nano seconds

Directv won't come out again until I get rid of the surge protector. I am in the process of removing them. However, I just wanted some insight from people on this board. Thanks in advance for your help!

My system consists of a 5lnb slimline and three H21 STBs.

DON'T run the coax through this.
SAT frequencies are up to 2.150 GHz

Yep. That's most likely your problem.

That is what I assumed. I just couldn't find a thread on here about the operating frequencies for Directv. Thank you guys so much.

There is no reason to use surge suppression for a cable that only goes to your dish. Cable tv that has a susceptible cable length outside the home would require protection.
