Does anyone happen to have Direct TV hooked up to their conversion van. This internet site http://www.asaelectronics.com/satellitevan.htm states that you can have this added to your van or truck. I just wondered how much it costs and how well it works when you are moving?

If Jet Blue can lock onto a signal it should be do able with a van. The problems with a vehicle is clear line of sight. Trees, tall buildings and tunnels should cause a loss of signal.

I wonder if a conversion van or "van style" rv qualify for the rv exemption for distant nets? I'm not sure if these say "rv" on the registration. Maybe it can say that if you tell the dmv. Does the registration really need the word "rv" on it to qualify?

I think the larger, GPS /Gyro stabilized units for RV's, Busses, etc are around $2000 I think these are more traditional antennas in an aerodynamic dome.
There is also a company coming out this summer with a smaller (i.e thinner) phased-array antenna (I think phased array is a bunch of little mirrors or LNB's) that can be mounted on any roof-rack that also costs several thousand, but their FAQ seemed to suggest it has a dual-LNB so a DTIVO or multiple receivers could be used.

I have a larger RV unit. An L3. About $2500. Doesn't work well in the rain, but otherwise it's nice. Not sure how much the car unit costs, but expect the same.
