Now that I have everyone's attention, I have a few serious questions about adding a second dish to my Dish 500 in order to get HD content from 61.5.

Here's the deal:

I currently have E*, AEP, legacy Dish 500 w/dual LNBs. My apt. maintenance guy brought me a used D* dish w/single LNB that he had removed from a recently vacated apartment. I had already been planning to add a second dish for 61.5 to get what HD programming is currently available..

Currently, I am feeding two IRDs (7200 Dishplayers) with two RG-6 runs into the apt, but when the 921 becomes available, I will replace the two DPs with one 921.

Three questions:

1. Will the freebie D* dish/LNB work as-is for 61.5, or will I need to replace the LNB, and if so, with what type of LNBF?

2. What would the new switch config be for combining the single with the legacy 500? I currently have two SW21s that have been in the weather for the past 3 years, but still work ok!

3. Does the 921 require two feeds like the 721? I think I read somewhere that the 921 will take a single RG-6 feed and split it internally to the two tuners.

tia,

Nick :smoking:

1. Should work as is assuming it is a dual lnb (two outputs).
2. The easiest would be an SW-64, if you can find one cheap enough.
3. Don't know much in the way of specifics and anything out there as of now is probably speculation. I bet you will learn the answer though on the Tech Chat.

PS... the grill cover is great for thawing the ground to plant a pole for a c-band dish during a freezing Minnesnowta winter. I am giving away trade secrets here, but since I am now in Florida, I don't care. :D

Replacing 2 DPs with one 921 sounds good! But are you still going to have a 2nd IRD (not DP) after that?

3. For a legacy installation, each tuner will have to have its own feed.
To run a dual-tuner receiver off a single RG6 feed requires use of a DishPro Plus switch (DPP Twin or DPP44), DP LNBs, and a DPP diplexer feeding the 2 tuner inputs. I don't know if the DPP equipment is available yet.

Sounds like all you need is a SW64. You already have 2 drops going to your DPs. If one of the DPs is in a different location just run another drop to the 921.

I always thought that a dish500 dish would make a great paella pan... :uglyhamme

Here's a use for a c band dish, standard dbs dishes may be too small, but if you have an old Primestar or Alphastar dish laying around you may beable to create a smaller version and have enough room for everything to breathe. But beiing creative is most important :D

Man, that looks like a S.E.T.I. radio telescope dish that was wa-a-ay to successful in fulfilling its ultimate mission. Scary. :eek2:

Why are we still sending radio signals out into deep space anyway? Don't they know those same electromagnetic signals can be used by Alien-like aliens to home in and ride the beam to Earth to infect and destroy all life on the planet?

PS: Thanks a bunch for the link to a huge .jpg file, Steve. It took my 56k dial-up connection running at half-speed like forever to dl the file. Next time give us a heads-up on files bigger than 100gB so those of us who have painfully slow connections can make plans to go take a three-martini lunch break while the damn pic downloads! :bang:

Okay, but I doubt I'll ever post anything that big, I only have a 10GB hard drive to begin with. Sorry Nick after all those times in the past I just couldn't resist :HappyGree

Sorry Nick, I'm on 56K also connected at 33.3K and it didn't take too long to load I did have some Neil Diamond playing in the background though so maybe that helped :)

Just damn, Richard, that's really a low blow (oops). And to think I used to like you.

BTW, what did you do with the other 57 seconds of that minute? When I d/l large files, I go get coffee, make the bed, cut the grass, take a nap or take a trip & stuff like that. Actually, because I have such a sl-o-o-ow connection, I get lots of stuff done around the house.
