I am planning to purchase an AMD, AM3 mobo and AM3 cpu.
I have memory chips of 4gb of dual channel DDR2 pc 6400 [800].
Will DDR2 memory be compatible with an AM3 mobo and AM3 cpu.
Thanks.

Although a Socket AM3 CPU has both DDR2 and DDR3 integrated memory controllers, you can only use DDR3 RAM in a Socket AM3 motherboard. However, to use DDR2 RAM, you can put a Socket AM3 CPU in a Socket AM2+ motherboard. AM2+/AM3 are pin compatable but DDR2/DDR3 is not. Even though DDR2/DDR3 have the same number of pins, the spacing is different.
