Oodles of new Mac goodies today ...
The iMac 27" is just to DROOL over. Can't wait to get my hands on that one (My G5 is about due for replacement ....)
The Mac Mini is finally a worthy contender. Decent processor, 2 GB RAM standard, decent video (GeForce 9400M - it's fine for most applications), and a good price point ...
And wait until you see the new Magic Mouse ... I just ordered one. Unreal!

I'm really excited about the Magic Mouse. I've been waiting for that one. While I love the idea of scroll wheels on mice, I've always hated them. They make my finger hurt. But, i love the multi-touch interface on the track pad of my MacBookPro so I know I'll love the multitouch interface on the Magic Mouse.

I will be getting the new iMac as well. Will probably sell off my current 2 year old iMac.
Can't wait!

The 27" iMac is ridiculous!!
Nice to see the Mac Minis actually step up as a contender.
I will most definitely be ordering a Magic Mouse. :)

Now the question for fence-sitters will be... will the "old" models go on clearance and be a better choice for a new Mac user?
I can't afford to upgrade (haven't had mine a year yet)... but I can still dream.

I am looking to get the new 27" for my home and move my "old" iMac to my office. I've been waiting for the latest updates that had been rumored for some time now to come out before doing this switcheroo. Plus the magic mouse looks great. I've had so many issues with my wireless mighty mouse, particularly the dadgum battery life! This upgrades are much better than I anticipated, though. That's one thing I appreciate about Apple. They jack up the specs while not jacking up the price compared to the previous iteration (though, granted their prices aren't exactly cheap. Initially.).:)

At a quick glance... it looks like the new bottom tier model iMac is equal (and in some ways superior) to the top-of-the-line iMac from this time last year except for monitor size.
Am I wrong in that observation?

You are indeed correct .... I bought my wife's 24" iMac in April, and aside from screen size, the low-end iMac is at least as capable - and some parts are better.

When Apple switched from PPC to Intel they had some nice deals on the older models at Costco (which normally does not carry Macs).

Yesterday I picked up the new 21.5" iMacs. Very sweet! The display is definitely better than my old 20' iMac. The migration assistant worked flawlessly moving everything over to the new Mac. I was up and running within an hour and everything looks and functions exactly the same.
The biggest difference I have seen is the speed. This thing is fast! It looks like they have also greatly improved the built in camera. The new Magic Mouse is also better than I expected.
Hopefully I should be able to sell my old iMac on fleabay without issue. I would love to keep it but don't have a need for it.

Shame to see such a good Mac on fleaBay.... but that's one of the blessings too -- that the Macs hold their value.
I bought my wife a 24" iMac back in April, but I'm still 'suffering' on a Power Mac G5.... :)

I picked up a 24" iMac about 6 months ago and love it.
That 27" is so calling my name though, "damn you Steve Jobs, damn you all to bloody hell" .....
(apologies to Charlton Heston)

(apologies to Charlton Heston) :cool:Maybe this will help you. While the new iMacs are definitely sweet, the only real difference (as I said before) is the speed. The display quality is also a bit better (vs the 24"). Quite frankly if I didn't have the extra money, I wouldn't have done it. My old iMac was chugging along fine. Unfortunately, I'm a freak about being on the cutting edge of stuff so I look for any excuse to upgrade. In this case (at least for me) it was worth it since it doubled internal hard drive space and upped the CPU speed a full Gig (my old iMac is a 2.0 Ghz).
I do like the new mouse though so if you don't get the 27" iMac, getting the new Magic Mouse might help the urge. Might make your 24" feel new. :)

I also understand the Time Capsules have been updated as well. Can anyone with a new one comment? I am considering one but understand some limitations with Entourage - since the data can be large and in a single file?
