Will a dish network 1000 dish work with a 301 rec.????

All 4 of the DISH 1000 series will work with the 301 but the 301 isn't HDTV so the 1000 is overkill in most cases. The 4 DISH 1000 are 1000, 1000+, 1000.2 & 1000.4:)

I got it for free, so I figured I would go ahead and use it. I don't need a switch do I??

You should not need a switch.

If you're seeing more than one satellite, you absolutely need a switch. The 1000, .2 and .4 have it bundled with the LNBs. The 1000+ needs an external switch.

The 301 is not practical to use with the 1000.4 as most of the channels on 61.5-72.7-77 are MPEG-4.

Needing a switch is really more dependent on what LNBs the 1000 has on it. If it has a Dish Pro Twin/quad, or three Dish Pro Duals/Singles then you will need a switch. If it has a Dish Pro + Twin then you will not need a external switch. FWIW unless you need the 129* for locals I would just leave the 500 up. The 1000 isn't a very good dish, and you will probably get worse signal strength with it than the 500.

Dish1000 picks signals from 119/110/129(dish antenna size similar to DISH 500& DP Plus Twin and a DP Dual{or DP Single} LNBF - no switch needed for up to two receivers)

Dish1000.2 picks signals from 119/110/129(dish antenna size similar to DISH 500 & DISH 1000.2 includes a DPP 1000.2 integrated LNBF - no switch needed for up to three receivers.)

Dish1000.2 picks signals from 119/110/129/118.7(a dish antenna size similar to SuperDISH & DISH 1000+ includes a DP Dual Band LNBF and two DP Dual LNBF)

and all 3 dish's will work with 301 receiver

That's actually a Dish1000+, which is basically a 500+ with an extra bracket for 129.

You also have a repoint kit to make a superdish into a 1000+

And 1000.4 is 61.5/72.7/77
