I wonder if this chat will live up to its billing. This is getting exciting. :D

usual pre-chat hype and excitement, i see, eh? :)
I'm already cleaning up the open bar and will be rolling it into the chat room :stickman: at 8:30PM ET. Join us in the tech chat...chat drinking game.
The DBSTalk Polka Band :icon_band will play from 8:30 to 9:00, Mr. RKing401 running sound.
Ok, guys and gals, help me out with the list of keywords and phrases we will use to trigger drinking events.
My suggestions:
- a mention of DBSTalk - rousing cheer and toast! :goodjob:
- firm date of HD launch - rousing cheer and toast! :goodjob:
- mention 811 or 921 - drink :jumpingja
- 5-15 min video of anything - trip to the head !pu****!
More ideas....???
Also, this time we really need someone to serve as the designated driver. !pepsi! Any volunteers?

- a mention of DBSTalk - rousing cheer and toast! Hell if they mention DBSTalk then they are eligible for the DVD of their Choice. :)
Mark Jackson mentioned us once but he refused the free DVD. :D

07-11-03, 02:52 PM
More likely he needed that DVD player just about as much as i need a "hole in my head" :D
itsa a disc, not a "player". ;)
Darkman
07-11-03, 04:49 PM
oh chit, my mistake...
sorry
but - one has to have a "player" first i guess anyhow to be able to play a "disc" ;)

Mr. RKing401 running soundI am very expensive, :contract: :money: and I don't do polka bands. When do you break out the R&B horn band? :new_smili :icon_band :new_smili

Stoopid question time here.....I haven't had a dish pointed toward 119 for months, but want to watch this Tech Chat. Can I assume it's still on channel 101?
Thanks! mn

Yes, it is on channel 101 on the 119 orbital slot (so that Dish 300 subscribers can watch the Charlie Chat as well). The Retailer chat (for retailers only) got switched from 119 to 110 after the Dish 500 came out.

101 isn't mirrored on some other channel(s) during the Chats? (Can't recall now)
Jacob S
07-12-03, 11:32 PM
I think it may be remirrored at the 61.5 - east coast - orbital slot (and I believe 148 - west coast - as well) but not sure what channel number that would be, but I think it may be the 900's or more likely the 9000's, one of the high number channels.

how about 490 at 119 and 491 at 148...?
Bobby94928

how about 490 at 119 and 491 at 148...?
As of this AM, Jul 13, there is no other channel in the epg showing the Tech Chat. I'm looking at 110, 119, 148.
Darkman
07-13-03, 08:12 AM
Ya, but that could be somewhat different - if for example 490 and 491 are mirrored ch 101 (and not just the Chat(s)), i do not think they usually show in the EPG ch 101's EPG info, which is most of the time: "Remote Help Channel" (or something like that)...
101 would show that EPG info, and mirrored channel would just be showing whatever is shown on 101, without displaying the actual correct EPG's info...
I see you have there 148 sat,
Do you see channel 491 on 148? - If so - try tuning in to it during the Chat (if still can anyhow at the time of Chat), and then we ll know if the Chat is shown there :)
from TNGTony's channel list page - the entry for channel 491:
Adult Guard Support SAP ALOCK 491 15 148° E*1 AT50 DL2 (Mapped 101, 265, 490, 491, 501)
He call 'em "Mapped"... And i think not all are available to "mere mortals", i think for the ch 265's entry Tony has "(1)" (which stand for "not available to subscribers")
Later....

Like i think:
ch 490s and/or 491s EPG info might say something like: "Adult Guard Support" (if one can see them at all), but ch 101's programming is shown which is "Remote Control Help"
So if no changes during actual Chat, the Chat might be shown on 490 and 491 as well :)
So if "mnassour" above gets 148 and sees channel 491 - lol - then he might be able to watch the Chat right there :)

I don't see 490 or 491 at all in my epg. I _do_ see the tech chat on 101 tomorrow at 6PM PST.

Perhaps they just did not put it in the guide on those channels. I thought I remembered seeing the Charlie Chats in the past on the side (wing) slots (61.5).

usual pre-chat hype and excitement, i see, eh? :)
Charlie, (drawn on Lucy Van Pelt's body) holds the football..... My face is pasted on Charlie Brown's as he runs towards the football.
The show starts and then finishes.......
Charlie yanks back the football, as no new hard info is given, only a "projected 4th quarter launch", AUGHHH! Slam.
I've seen this movie before. I know how it ends.... Sigh....

But this is the season for summer reruns.
Jacob S
07-14-03, 12:32 PM
At least you do not see reruns of Charlie Chat/Tech Chat every month (unless you see the rebroadcasts that happen right after each Charlie Chat/Tech Chat).
I don't even have 101. wtf

It's gonna be wherever your Remote Tips are, and that should be 101.

Perhaps someone has it on a favorites list on the program guide or while you turn your channels up down/browse. If this is the case you will see it indicated on the program guide. Press the GUIDE button while you are in the guide mode and each time you press it you cahnge your favorites list.

DishNetwork Channel 101
9:00 PM Eastern Time
8:00 PM Central Time
7:00 PM Mountain Time
6:00 PM Pacific Time
!
WOW! According to Mark, we should just be happy to get the HD programming we can get and be happy that dish is investing in new technologies to provide us with the upcoming HD programming.
And since we paid so much for our TV's, we should also be willing to pay a little for the SuperDish.
Wow, I feel really fortunate to be a dish subscriber right now!
On a side note: Congrats to Chris Blount for winning one of the contests!

So at first Mark says that you should be able to watch the old HD content with your current equipment and only need to get the SuperDish if you want to get the new programming and less than ten minutes later Dave comes along and declares that eventually all the HD channels will move to 121. Nice

Yeah, but at least E* will have plenty of bandwidth at the new bird. Should be interesting to see how it plays out..
They think this is going to go over well? I live in the SF Bay area where we have some of the locals on 148. Hopefully they'll move
all that, too, onto the 121, and then they'd have to give me a
superdish for free. :-) (that's how i got my second dish in the
first place...)

Great Chat tonight.....one of the better ones! :righton:
So we still don't have any information on when the 811 and 921 will be out?

07-14-03, 08:07 PM
Also, can someone please explain to me who in the world would buy a "subsidized" $1000 PVR921 just so they could watch their OTA HD signal??? That is just plain stupid - there is no reason in the world why they can't show the SD feed when the satellite signal goes out on those high-end receivers

148 will still be there for secondary locals. Yo will just need the new dish for HD programming (for now)

I'll be the first in line so I can record HD. The other limitations are a nuisance, but not deal breakers for me
DmitriA
07-14-03, 08:15 PM
Yes, but would you pay that much if you weren't a Dish subscriber just for the purpose of watching/record the OTA HD signals? That's what they claim they are trying to prevent with these limitations

Are these the positions for the two new superdishes?
Does anyone have a pointer to a schedule of when this tech chat will be repeated?
Oh... here is the rebroadcast schedule (http://www.dishnetwork.com/downloads/pdf/customercare/CChat_ReBrdcstSchedule.pdf) (in .PDF format).
