Hello. I have been trying to figure out why I get such sporadic performance with DirecTV2PC on my computer. I have just discovered that when my Palm Treo 700wx is connected to my computer (for syncing purposes), I can launch DirecTV2PC and even bring up the play lists on both of my DVRs, but I cannot play anything. I constantly get the message "DIRECTV2PC cannot connect tot eh receiver. The protected content cannot be played back at this time."

I'm fine with simply taking my phone of out the cradle when I'm using DirecTV2PC as a work around. But I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced similar behavior with your PDA and/or phone, ActiveSync and DirecTV2PC. And whether or not you have found a solution.

Interestingly enough, if I start watching a show and then put my device back in its cradle during playback, it does not interrupt playback. It seems that I'm only unable to start playback while the device is connected.

Thank you.

Brian

I have had the same problem for a long time with DirecTV2PC and my Windows Mobile phone, which also uses ActiveSync.

ActiveSync=crap....its completely unsecure and a system resource hog.

Sorry I should have added that I'm glad you found the source of the conflict, and that I hope you can find a better syncing tool for your phone. We pulled our hair out at work for years trying to make that crap software safe to use and not conflict with software that HAD to run correctly. Then finally Mobile 6 came along. We outlawed all non-smartphones and those problems all went away.

I posted about this in the D2PC issues thread a while back, but I guess the knowledge never got spread. Just so you know, it doesn't have to do specifically with ActiveSync, per se. The issue has to do with certain types of Network Connections on the system. When you connect your phone to the PC via ActiveSync, it creates one of the incompatible network connections, but other software (Cisco VPN, etc...) can have the same effect. Why the network connections cause an issue, I have no clue, but hopefully the DTV folks are looking into the problem.

Because DirecTV2PC has the most overbearing and poorly-designed DRM of any software application on the market.

Not really, just look at just about any DRM related product today. They are doing exactly what they are designed to do, lock stuff down...Jeremy, I cant help but notice that a large percentage of your posts are just flat out negative.

They aren't designed to lock stuff down, they are designed to protect content. No content is being protected by not allowing playback if a Windows Mobile device is connected to the computer. Similar to the "feature" that existed for a long time where content couldn't be played back if there was more than one monitor. It protected nothing, and was obviously just the byproduct of overbearing and poorly-designed DRM, since it was eventually resolved.

What is the point of posting this? Stick to the topic. If you have a problem with me, take it to PM where it belongs.
