View Full Version : transfer shows from dvr to another?

i have 2 hd dvrs (hr20-700 and hr21-100) and i am switching them around. i would like to know (or rather my girlfriend) if i can take the shows that was recorded on the 20-700 and transfer them to the 21-100 (she got at least 3months of soap operas recorded and havent had time to watch them yet) and if i can, how do you do it?

Since they are functionally the same, is there some pressing reason you want to swap them? Oh, crap, I bet its the color thing right? Functionally the same yes, but they are different colors right?

the 21-100 is the newest that i recieved so i want to put it in the living room and take the 20-700 into the bedroom. color was 1 of the reason but not the main reason. the black matches the rest of my equipment i have.

MRV (multi-room viewing) is coming, probably within the next few months, and will allow you to view programs recorded on one DVR from another DVR (the DVRs must be networked).

that would be too long. i have heard something about using the external hard drive to do this, but i didnt catch all of it. is this possible? or am i just screwed?

the external drive will only play its programs on the dvr that recorded it. you can't move the external to another unit and watch it.
your options are limited.

Shows are only playable on the DVR that recorded them, so no there is no way to move recordings from 1 dvr to another. You can move recordings from 1 drive to another as long as the new drive is hooked up to the same dvr that recorded the shows, for instance if you want to move to a larger drive on the same DVR.

what technique or software does weak* or dvrup* use to transfer shows from the hard drive to a larger hard drive?

would winmfs work?

or acronis maybe somehow? never saw anything about copying shows from a pure d* drive over to a larger hard drive for the same receiver of course.

anybody know anything about this?
