Will be moving in a couple weeks and need some help with the new technology. I have called and set up the dishmover appt.

1. Will the installer give me a dishpro LNB or legacy?

2. If it's a DishPro twin LNB, how many lines need to go to the 34 swtich for both sats? I would think just one, right?

3. Can I piggy-back a regular antenna on the same line if it's dishpro?

Thanks!
Brian

Before getting into your questions, the switch you are asking about is called a "DP34" which you can verify by looking at the pictures on the sites that call it "SW34." The "SW##" models are legacy switches, "DP##" are DishPro.

1. Probably whatever he has that will support the number of receivers you have. DishPro receivers can by used with either type, legacy receivers need legacy switches or an extra-cost DP adapter. If you have 3 or 4 receivers and only need 2 sats, the Quad (legacy or DP version) will work fine. Have you asked Dish what they will specify on the work order or if you can contact the installer directly?

2. Almost right -- 1 per satellite, total of 2, plus an optional 3rd if you want one of the side sats. The DP34 has 3 satellite inputs and 4 tuner outputs (plus 3 satellite pass-through outputs for chaining additional DP34s).

3. I believe so. Does anyone know if DishPro + OTA requires a different grade diplexer?

Oh, and just saw this is your 1st post, :welcome_s to DBSTalk!

You need a Diplexer rated to 2150 MHZ.

Thanks for your help. I've been reading dbstalk for a while, just never posted.

I have a 508, 6000, and soon to be 811 or 921.

Here's my problem though. It's a condo and the cable box is on the other side of the building. How will the installer get the lin into the building, assuming he mounts it near my balcony? There are two coax lines running to a junction box in the condo from each room, and the study is right inside the window from the balcony. But since there are only two lines and I need my cable modem to use one of them, how would I support two receivers? The other issue is that I have an antenna for OTA HD, which would need another line coming in. I'm hoping to piggy back that on the Dish line.

I guess all my questions will be answered when the installer comes out, but I'm just worried it's going to be impossible.

Brian one of your complication is definitely "CONDO" the complex normally owns the exterior of your condominium so your installer will have to work with their rules. Start by checking with the homeowners association for their rules on installation so your installer will have an easier time correctly doing the installation.

Actually, according to Dish Network's service parts list, the DP34 switch is now call an SW34

The DISH movers kits that DISH sends out to installs are coming out with two sw21's and 2 dual LNB's. I would expect that you would get a dish with legacy equipment.
