That looks like they are talking about cable co dvrs and it doesn't sound like it has anything to do with DirecTV and their plans.

Coming to cable companies soon, Pace’s DVR system allows six simultaneous recordings, but that’s not the best part.
Pace, maker of various set-top boxes and TV technologies, has announced a new product that they hope will revolutionize the home experience. The new Home Content Sharing (HCS) solution from Pace allows users to stream recorded television to any set-top in their home. The ‘what’ sounds great, but the ‘how’ gets a bit complicated and acronym filled.

IT DOES, when it shows how Directv will have a similar, hopefully able to record 8 shows at once and shows how Directv needs this to stay ahead
That shouldn't add more than $50 a month to your cable bill, base on the current fee charged for one DVR :D
Damn there I go being a D* Slave again

:backtotop Cable STB technology advance seems so slow.At least my SA 8300 dual-tuner HD DVR works, and works virtually flawlessly. No hiccups, npo Brrriiiiipp!, no missed timers, no incessant updates that require constant user intervention, no nothing!
It just sits there, day after day, month after month, year ofter year, quietly doing its job.

Just as a reminder, Pace (manufacturer code 700) also makes receivers (SD, HD and HD DVRs) for DirecTV.
Much to do about nothing.

My HR20 records everything, too. I guess we're both happy.
