View Full Version : Searching for Files...

For years I used the old 'fileman', then with 98, 'winfile', to do a simple search for files or file types, particularly *.tmp, *.jpg files to keep them to a minimum. I have used the "windows explorer" utility, but prefer "winfile" for its at-hand simplicity. Now, my 'winfile' is corrupted, and 'win explorer' has vanished. (I think it's a conspiracy!)

So, now I need a simple utility to do things like:
- file searches, both by file name and extension;
- format/reformat disks
- change file attributes
- rename/delete files
- make file/app associations

I'm hoping that someone knows of a freebie utility to replace what I have lost, or knows how I can restore my 'winfile' functionality.

Nick,
You may want to take a look at Powerdesk, I used them for years back a couple of years. I'm now using explorer, because of it being the most stable and simple approach, (though way less powerful)

Just for giggles ... anyone remember quickdos ? That was an awesome utility in it's day !! :-)
