What is going on at Dish Network. Is everyone selling their Echostar 6000's for DirecTV's HD package, or simply, what's up?

Why not ask the Ebay sellers to get the answer?

What's the big deal? I don't see anything wrong with the 6000 besides a few bugs. It does everything that it's supposed to IMO; so I see no need to upgrade to the 921 or the 811.

No, the 6000 is equiv of the TRS80, if you are happy with those features so be it. Waiting for it's replacement, welcome to 2004. Try investigating Wink, Open TV and 7 day EPG? But then E* announces release of new product, capable of only 3 day EPG, unless you are DVR converted.
My guess is they are selling them while they still have some value. Once the 921 and 811 come out, the 6000 wont be worth too much. I was tempted to sell mine, but because I don't know exactly when the 921 will be out I decided to keep it.

I only ever use the 6000 to watch HDTV and live TV. It works great for me because I have the 501 and my Tivo to catch all the shows I miss.

I didn't know you could record HD programs on the 501/508?

And I couldn't care less about that. I want more choices to watch; not to record. I might change my mind later, but not in the foreseeable future. But since I don't want to start a whole big thing, more power to you guys waiting for the 921. ;)

Charlie customer service rep.'s now tell you, the 921 is coming
out sometime in 2004. They have not heard of the 811.
They have been saying the 6000 will have a software upgrade
this summer, to give you picture in guide.

if they are not mistaken of course..
I would not be surprised, cuz some of those Customer Service Rep.'s "truly" know jack
but pic-in-guide for 6000s this sommer sounds "kewl" :)
do not think though - that will be with the currently spooled 7.78 (as none reported Pic-in-Guide feature - after getting it)
Oh well, maybe better luck next time :D

Call Charlie, ask for a supervisor. Where's the picture in guide?
When this summer! Why isn't it part of 7.78?
Hi,
I am in Canada and have the 6000C. I e-mailed Bell about the Open TV picture in Guide issue. THey e-mailed back saying that it was a hardware issue and that no picture in guide upgrade was possible.

No, the TRS80 is better!!!! My TRS80 Model II still works like a charm and hasn't needed a software update in 21 years! ;)

May be a lot of people switched to D, since they are now the HD King. Those peple are selling their 6000's on eBay, since they do not need them any longer.

Hey Kryspy :)
Maybe it's impossible...
But one never knows, cuz
On the other hand Bell's Customer Service Rep.'s know jack also....and maybe even peter :)

BTW - Bell can't even make (or simply doesn't want to) Picture-in-Guide for their 4700s...

They do not have as many customers therefore not as many of what we call 4700's out there like we do. They have a different model number for theirs than we do.

Did EPG compression for the 6000 ever get implemented? Mine doesn't seem any faster yet.

I am not sure if they implemented those just for the OpenTv receivers or all of the receivers to help with the Picture in Guide feature. I thought they were supposed to compress the guide on all receivers.

Squirrel, there are not 400+ 6000's for sale on Ebay. There where 40 Sunday with all auctions closing before midnight PST, and I think it's down to 20 tonight. However, your irriation with E* is acknowledged and shared by many more these days.

With 811s due to be sold for $299 (as mentioned on the tech chat), look for the price of used 6000's to plunge.

It looks to me like the price of the new 6000's should plunge. Dish is asking way too much for them. Anyone would be crazy to buy a new one.

Last night's chat should dry up whatever demand they had for the new 6000s now.
Osborne syndrome strikes again. The trick is to have to unit in production and ready to ship when you say that your current product will be too expensive and/or obsolete.

Ozzy really said all that?

Nah, the guy who made Osborne computers in the early 80's. He basically killed demand for his current product by talking about the great things coming in the next generation.
