In the absence of the inimitable bdowell (hopefully he'll be back soon enough, but no rush), I've taken the reins over with these monthly posts about all the wonderful new movies premiering on the various premium channels.

I'll use some of bdowell's formatting, so all is uniform.

Note that I'll update this thread as information becomes available and if I have any available time. As always, everyone will hopefully of course appreciate any information you may be able to add. If you find the information useful, you may wish to subscribe to this thread so you'll receive e-mails as information is added :)

All premieres on Saturdays, unless otherwise noted.

Note please that I haven't confirmed that the programs I have listed are actually premiering for the first time on these channels. These programs may have been shown on channels, or on other nites before the dates shown. The information below is just a look at the list of movies and major programs that are upcoming and seem to be showing for the 'first time' (on the network that is shown) on the dates noted.

Thanks for sharing.

Though The Secret Life of Bees already premiered on HBO a month or two ago.

Thanks again to Pablo for gathering up this information and getting it out to everyone. Great job!

Starz (http://www.starz.com)

Obsessed (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1198138/) 12/5
Confessions of a Shopaholic (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1093908/) 12/12
Rachel Getting Married (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1084950/) 12/19

Hmmmm, mixed month for Starz it seems. Haven't seen Obsessed, skipped Rachel Getting Married (though I think my daughter watched it, and might have caught it with my wife as one of the last films they got to see together). I did see Confessions of Shopaholic with my daughter. It was tolerable chick-flick-ish stuff. Shopaholic would be an ok 'date night' film if you wanted to score some points in that area. :D

HBO (http://www.hbo.com)

Taken (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0936501/) 12/5
Body of Lies (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0758774/) 12/12
He's Just Not That Into You (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1001508/) 12/19
Revolutionary Road (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0959337/) 12/26

Taken was much better than I thought it would be, but be warned it's a bit graphic and/or heart wrenching to watch. Liam Neeson is pretty b.a. (bad _ss) in it. Body of Lies sounds like a title I should remember, but I just don't. I don't think I saw it, but can't even really say what it would be about... He's Just Not That Into You is again chick-flick territory. Not badly so, again tolerable date night type flick. It would likely inspire discussion between the sexes along the way. Revolutionary Road was something that my wife and I had started watching and both fell asleep on. It was late, we were tired as we started, and it just wasn't enough to keep us awake to see all of. Since I wanted to get the rental disc returned in favor of something else, we never caught the rest of the flick, at least not that I remember. She (wife) might have, but I don't think she did. It was supposed to be very good, but was just another flick in my book.

Cinemax (http://www.hbo.com)

Gran Torino (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1205489/) 12/5
Inkheart (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0494238/) 12/12
Friday the 13th (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0758746/) 12/19
The Secret Life of Bees (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0416212/) 12/26

I'd love to see Gran Torino and will catch it eventually. I may have had the disc in hand at some point over the last few months, but my renting and viewing habits were drastically changed over the summer, so I can't say for sure. I didn't buy it on disc as it isn't the type flick I imagine myself watching repeatedly, though it was supposed to be very good. The title for Inkheart rings a bell, but I know I didn't see it. Now I've forgotten what it was all about. Pass on Friday the 13th for me. Secret Life of Bees is another film I remember the name of, supposed to have been pretty good, but not something I recall watching. Would probably have been a his & hers type film for a rental, but that doesn't happen for me any more so I've not seen it.

No Showtime yet.

Why am I not surprised? :p :D

Again, thanks to Pablo for his work here. Great job and nice to know in advance what to expect next month, even if it looks like a bit of a mixed bag.

(And gee, with that list of films, it's no wonder my Blu-ray pre-order list is longer than it should be ;) )

Take another look at Revolutionary Road if you can ... it's a very good movie and I was quite contemplative when it ended and I sat back and reflected on it. Really worth the viewing, IMHO.

I may yet get back around to it, though time has continued to be less available for me and my own moving watching habit lately, so I can't say when it would happen.

I know it's not coming up in December, but I would put in a good word for the film The Reader which featured Kate Winslet (also in Rev. Road). That was very, very good and I enjoyed it a lot (and would say that I think my wife had enjoyed it too).

Showtime added. Amazingly, it looks as though they'll only have a single premiere, Transsiberian, which is a movie I long wanted to see, and now I finally will. It's directed by one of my favorite directors, Brad Anderson. Too bad he doesn't make very many movies.

Body of Lies has been on the Premiums for a few weeks now but cant wait to record Taken. One of the best movies I have ever seen. If your father its an extra awesome movie.
