Hard to believe, but the Consumer Electronics Show is only 63 days away now.

Since this thing is mostly about "gadgets, electronic gizmos....thought this crowd would be the most interested.

General info is here:

http://www.cesweb.org/

Instructions and rules are on the site - it is not open to the "general public", but many folks here still qualify to go.

I went with another DBSTalker last year and had a great time, and saw alot of neat new technology, a great deal of which is now on the market. A few things have not yet made it. Also got to meet a couple of the great DBSTalker mods who happened to go last year.

Both my DBSTalker frined and I are going again in 2010 - the show starts Janaury 7th and runs 4 days through Janaury 10th.

But in general, this is an amazing show - even though it has lost some luster from past years gone by. Last year attendance was donwn from about 130,000 in 2008 to 115,000 in 2009. They are still anticipating 100,000+ for the 2010 show.

For those going, book early - flights and hotels, as they tend to get filled quickly this time of year. Also, look for special CES attendee-only deals on the CES site for hotels.

If new gadgets and gizmos are "your thing", this can be a neat experience.

Disappointed that you won't be there...was going to buy you a beverage (or two) for all your fine work here. :D

They've tightened up the qualifications for a Blogger pass. Last year was my first time going. I thought the EKB might qualify me as media if I stretched the definition just a little, so instead put in for and was accepted as a blogger. This year even that was rejected (sounded like they were turning down user sites) but I got accepted for General Attendance.

The place I stayed at that last year forgot to spike its room rates for CES didn't repeat that mistake this year :crying::icon_lol:. Looks like I'll be at one of the monstrously sized casinos where I won't be able to park near an entrance. On the plus side, I'll either be at or closer to a CES shuttle stop.

Any thoughts on the <$95 places (Circus Circus, Excalibur, Hooters, Sahara, Tropicana)? Main criteria is a dark, quiet (typical motel AC units do not qualify but shutting it off isn't a problem) room with broadband. Wow, just saw the Luxor is down to a $101 avg over the first 4 nights.

All good info..thanks for sharing.

Yes....with a "captive" audience...hotel rates skyrocket those days...at least the first few days anyway...so check out the CES site for "discounted rates"..and shop around online as well.

Often...some of the smaller chain hotels also have better prices on rooms...like Holiday Inn Express, Courtyards, etc.

I've never stayed at the Luxor, but have been in it and it smelled weird. This was about 10 years ago, so maybe they found and fixed the problem, but I am not sure if I could stand it for 4 days.

Stayed there 8-9 times now with no problems...a few years back, they completely redid the insides of the place....so it does have a new look in the pyramid "innards"....

Well, you can count on the "local" to attend.

If he's going....he should know about the "credentials" needed to get in, or perhaps can broker something.

You'll need a business card or something similar to demonstrate that you are in the Consumer electronics industry, along with the online registration.

I have to pass (again) this year. We have been gone most of the summer. Time to rest.

Doesn't look good for me this year, even though I have my name tag sitting beside me. I have to sell a house that I have on the market before I can even think about such expenditures. :(

If you end up going, just let everyone here know....we'll likely try to get a group together somehow like last year.

That would be a given.
