I am attempting to set up a AU9 dish on a tripod (all purchased from Sadoun) for a tailgate this weekend and am testing at home before going to the game. I am getting a signal on the 101 in the 90's but cannot get any other satellite to show up on the signal meters. Do I need to do something on the dish or in the receiver set up. I am using a D12 receiver currently to test the signals. I live in State College, PA and am aiming the dish to 224 @ 37 degrees and tilt of 66 degrees.

All transponders are getting signal in the 90's on the 101 (A) but I am not able to switch to any other satellite in the signal strength set up.

What am I missing or what extra info do you need??

Thanks in advance!!!

UPDATE:

OK, Here is where I am with the signals....

101: 90's and up on all transponders except 4, 12, 20...these are zero
110 all n/a's except 8 (91) 10 (88) and 12 (92)
119 all n/s's except 22-24 (95+) 25 (42) 26-28 (97+) 29 (22) 30 (98) 31 (68) and 32 (98)

Still no locals....should I try my HR20 receiver with this or am I ok using the D12....like I said I am not overly worried about the HD more so that I need to get the locals (ABC)

What is your service address DMA.
d-12 will not "see" anything other than 101,110,119.
If you are out of your local area , you may not get spot beam of locals.

I am in the Johnstown/Altoona/State college (zip 16801). I moved the wire to my HR20-700 and connected to Input Tuner #1

As an update on the transponders:

101: 90's and up on all transponders except 4, 12, 20...these are zero
110 all n/a's except 8 (95) 10 (95) and 12 (95)
119 all n/a's except 22-24 (96+) 25 (33) 26-28 (97+) 29 (0) 30 (98) 31 (62) and 32 (98)
99(c) All above 91 until I get to 15-32 all n/a's
99(s) in order starting with 1--- 52 76 56 76 43 94 n/a until 15 which is 79 37 98 98 0 37 50 62 79 82 then n/a 25-32
103(s) all 0's on 1-6 n/a on 7-14 then 77 97 0 46 94 97 91 0 38 75 then n/a 25-32
103(c) all above 88

I picked 04: slimline-5 for dish type and 02: Multiswitch for switch type....

Please let me know if I can provide any more information and many, many thanks!!

I responded to your post in the other forum. In your DMA the locals come from the 72.5 satellite (although they may have been removed by now) and from either 99 or 103. That means the D12 will not receive locals from a single dish, because it can't see 99/103, and can only see 72.5 if there is a second dish.

I know your area very well, from setting up my daugther's Directv service in the State College area. Your SD locals are on the 72.5. HD locals are on the 99s. The only exception is the CW, which is on the 101.

Sounds like your D12 is not going to work for locals.

Thanks for the help....I think I am close but now I only get the locals and no other channels. The locals are in HD. My guess is that I don't have the 101 perfectly lined up which is causing the others to be off a little also.

CURRENT SET UP:
I have the AU9 dish (DIRECTV AU9 Slimline Ku/Ka Dish (http://sadoun.com/Sat/Order/Dishes/DirecTV_Tailgate-Satellite-Dish_kits.htm)) with a single RG6 cable running to my HR20-700 going into the Tuner 1 input (nothing in the Tuner 2)

I have the receiver Dish Type set to Slimline-5....should this be something else

Signal meters are below:

Dan,
Your antenna is fine, and yes the dish type is slimline 5. Everything looks fine. Your HD locals are on 99s, transponder 6. 86 is a bit low (my daughter's signal strength for that transponder is 95). So no problem with the locals.

What I can't understand is why you only receive locals. Your 101 signal strengths look fine. Very similar to my daughter's readings. No problem with your alignment at all.

You don't even need the 110 and 119.

If you're not receiving the other channels, something is obviously wrong. But it's not your antenna pointing.

There's no reason based on the signal strengths why you should not be getting all the channels on an HR20. What happens when you select a regular channel?

Is a BBC connected?

Is a BBC connected?

It must be, otherwise he wouldn't have good signal strengths for the Ka-band satellites. Also, he can't even get the "other" channels on the 101, which doesn't require a BBC.

Of course now I am at work.....I will try again when I get home and "kind of start from scratch" with resetting the receiver and hopefully let you know.

Thanks a lot for all of your help!!!!!

What? You didn't bring your tailgate setup to work for lunch time tuning?
